Last week, I told you the 3 keys to setting Discovery Sessions:
- Share the top 3 benefits of your discovery session.
- Ask DIRECTLY “Would you like to have a discovery session?”
- After asking, be silent for as long as it takes them to answer you.
But many coaches still don’t use these 3 keys.
Why?
Because they are afraid of REJECTION.
Fear of rejection (coaching flavor) is a result of these 3 disempowering
mindsets:
- “I’m not a good enough coach”
- “This particular person doesn’t need coaching.”
- “I NEED this client.”
To overcome fear of rejection, adopt the “3 Mindsets of Abundant Discovery Sessions”:
- “I’m an awesome coach.”
- “This particular person needs a discovery session.”
- “I don’t need this client.”
If you adopt those 3 mindsets, the fear goes away…

…AND you’ll schedule more discovery sessions.
Let’s talk about each mindset…
Disempowering Mindset #1: “I’m not a good enough coach.”
If you believe you’re not a good enough coach…
…or even if you question your coaching ability…
…then you’ll hesitate to offer your potential clients a discovery session.
Instead, adopt the Mindset of Abundant Discovery Sessions: “I’m an
awesome coach.”
Having almost ANY coach is better than NO coach.
You’re the coach this particular client has access to right now.
Offering them your discovery session is a catalyst to make your client’s life
better.
Not everyone has access to the top coaches in the world…
…but they do have access to YOU.
For a deeper dive into the “not a good enough coach” mindset, watch THIS
Disempowering Mindset #2: “This particular person
doesn’t need coaching.”
If you believe that your client doesn’t need coaching…
…then you probably won’t offer them a discovery session.
Why?
A good person wouldn’t offer coaching to someone who doesn’t need it.
And you’re a good person, right?
Instead, adopt the Mindset of Abundant Discovery Sessions: “This
particular person needs a discovery session.”
It’s true, isn’t it?
EVERYONE needs coaching.
EVERYONE has blind spots.
EVERYONE would achieve their goals faster and easier if they had coaching.
Coaching is something everyone deserves.
Coaching is something everyone deserves.”
No matter how successful and impressive your prospective clients seem…
Don’t they have bad habits?
Don’t they have a relationship that could be improved?
Don’t they have room to improve their health, family, or finances?
Disempowering Mindset #3: “I NEED this client.”
If you think you need a client…
…then you’ll stumble as you attempt to schedule their discovery session.
If you’re needy enough, you’ll get so intimidated…
…that you won’t even attempt to offer a discovery session.
Coaches stuck in this mindset feel like the client is Caesar…
…and they are a Gladiator in the Roman Colosseum.
All the client has to do is give a “thumbs down”…

…and the coach’s day (life?) is ruined.
Sound ridiculous?
Sound over the top?
Sound childish?
It’s ABSOLUTELY how many coaches feel.
BOTTOM LINE: Needing clients to validate you is a recipe for failure.
BOTTOM LINE: Needing clients to validate you is a recipe for failure.“
(Not to mention, if you’re coaching for VALIDATION… you’re in store for
mucho pain.)
Instead, adopt the Mindset of Abundant Discovery Sessions: “I don’t
need THIS person to be my coaching client.”
YES, you do need paying clients in your coaching business.
BUT, no ONE client is “life or death” for your business.
Your client benefits from a discovery session with you…
…more than YOU benefit from that discovery session.
THEY get priceless breakthroughs and rare insights.
YOU give up a part of your afternoon without getting paid.
You can always work with another client.
There are MILLIONS of people who could become your client.
However, your client only has ONE life.
And there aren’t unlimited coaches on the planet.
If your potential client doesn’t have a coach…
…they miss out on a key life success advantage.
Don’t allow their continued suffering!
Offer them a discovery session and give them a chance to change their life.
That discovery session is FOR THEM…
…NOT for YOU.
THEY may need it.
YOU never do.
Fear of rejection is based in your mindset.
Fear of rejection is based in your mindset.“
Change the mindset and you change the fear.
Rejection is 100% optional in your discovery session offers.
‘NO’ is going to happen from time to time.
You’re going to get some ‘NO’s, and there’s ‘no’ way around it.
But you don’t have to make ‘no’…
…mean REJECTION.
‘No’
only
means
NO.
Successful coaches don’t allow a little ‘no’ to stop them.
Exposing yourself to ‘no’ by…
…Sharing benefits.
…asking direct questions
…Allowing space for your client to answer…
…is what successful coaches do.

The game is rigged for ‘no’.
But it’s also guaranteed to play out in your favor over time.
So, when offering your next discovery session:
- Share the top 3 benefits of your discovery session.
- Ask DIRECTLY “Would you like to have a discovery session?”
- After asking, be silent for as long as it takes them to answer you.
Avoid the 3 mindset mistakes of unsuccessful coaches:
- “I’m not a good enough coach”
- “This particular person doesn’t need coaching.”
- “I NEED this client.”
Adopt the 3 mindsets of abundant discovery sessions:
- “I’m an awesome coach.”
- “This particular person needs a discovery session.”
- “I don’t need this client.”
If you own these mindsets, you won’t feel fear of rejection.
If you own these mindsets, you won’t feel fear of rejection.”
You’ll feel more confident, and have better interactions.
Make a difference.
Offer a discovery session to the person in front of you.
Focus on the transformation and breakthroughs you’ll provide them.
Feel the empowerment and value.
Pretty soon, your new client’s life will be changed.
And changing lives is what your coaching is all about.
