The Manager as a Coach

Thanks to rapid changes in our society, the way we do business, how we do things, in general, has become obsolete. The workplace is no exception. Most organizations around the world have realized that the traditional way of managing employees no longer works. The old way of managing people using “command and control practices, “as mentioned in an article by Harvard Business Review, has become almost non-existent. The article also states that today’s manager offers more “support and guidance rather than instructions, and employees learn how to adapt to constantly changing environments in ways that unleash fresh energy, innovation, and commitment. The role of the manager, in short, is becoming that of a coach.” Companies who have adopted coaching leadership styles in their management are experiencing greater employee engagement and higher revenue.

What is Coaching? The ICF defines it as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. In coaching, clients are seen as the experts in their own lives, and the coach’s role is to listen, make observations, ask powerful questions, and hold up a mirror to help the clients see what they may not see in themselves.

The Coaching Skills Workshop helps individuals develop practical coaching skills that will be useful or valuable in assisting others, i.e., their clients or employees, to achieve desired results. This workshop has been created for individuals in all management-level positions interested in learning how to coach effectively by adopting skills that will deliver impacting and sustainable results. A 2014 article by the Harvard Business Review highlights the importance of coaching in management.
