The Benefits of Attending a Coaching Skills Workshop

March 31, 2021 by Margaret K. Olubiyi 1 Comment

The coaching skills workshop’s goal is to develop managers, supervisors, and other types of leaders in the skills of coaching to enhance the performance of their teams/employees.

The Manager as a Coach

Thanks to rapid changes in our society, the way we do business, how we do things, in general, has become obsolete. The workplace is no exception. Most organizations around the world have realized that the traditional way of managing employees no longer works. The old way of managing people using “command and control practices, “as mentioned in an article by Harvard Business Review, has become almost non-existent. The article also states that today’s manager offers more “support and guidance rather than instructions, and employees learn how to adapt to constantly changing environments in ways that unleash fresh energy, innovation, and commitment. The role of the manager, in short, is becoming that of a coach.” Companies who have adopted coaching leadership styles in their management are experiencing greater employee engagement and higher revenue.

The Coaching Skills Workshop

What is Coaching? The ICF defines it as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. In coaching, clients are seen as the experts in their own lives, and the coach’s role is to listen, make observations, ask powerful questions, and hold up a mirror to help the clients see what they may not see in themselves.

The Coaching Skills Workshop helps individuals develop practical coaching skills that will be useful or valuable in assisting others, i.e., their clients or employees, to achieve desired results. This workshop has been created for individuals in all management-level positions interested in learning how to coach effectively by adopting skills that will deliver impacting and sustainable results. A 2014 article by the Harvard Business Review highlights the importance of coaching in management. It states that coaching is the single most important managerial competency that separates highly effective managers from nothing but average. This statement shows how valuable coaching is to the overall performance of both management and organizations.

Coaching Skills And Its Importance in Management

Today’s leaders around the world have embraced leadership styles that incorporate coaching. Coaching skills are those abilities that are used in helping others in achieving their desired goals. Examples of these fundamental skills include active listening, empathy, powerful questioning, providing constructive feedback, follow-up, active listening, and more. Coaching skills are critical in management and if you effectively apply these skills to the way you manage, you will be able to accomplish the following:

  • Foster positive employee engagement and a positive workplace environment.
  • Improve performance and productivity levels.
  • Ask Powerful open-ended questions in the coaching conversations that yield positive results.
  • Actively give team members needed feedback on their performance and development.
  • Coach team members to maximize their full potential and drive bottom-line results.
  • Confront and resolve performance problems by enhancing individual and team accountability
  • Develop respect and trust among team members.

When you attend a coaching skills workshop, you will learn how to apply coaching skills to your managerial role in the workplace and various coaching scenarios. You will guide your employees/team in setting realistic goals and identifying growth opportunities. Adopting a coaching leadership style, i.e., adding coaching skills to your leadership skillset, will enable you to thrive as a leader in today’s global workforce.

It made sense to me when you said that you will develop practical coaching skills when you undergo a coaching skills workshop, and this can help you coach others, too. This reminds me of companies that need to empower their sales personnel with more skills and abilities. I could imagine how business leaders could consider a sales leadership skills training to better equip their employees.
