Personal Coach Salary: What Can I Expect?

September 22, 2022 by Jeannie Cotter Leave a Comment

A personal coach salary can seem lucrative, but being a personal coach is not for everyone. It depends on your hard work, and if you like working for yourself and helping people, this could be a great career. In this article, we are going to break down how much you can make as a personal coach, so you can decide if it’s the right career path for you!

What is a Personal Life Coach?

A personal life coach is someone who provides guidance and support to help you reach your goals. A personal life coach will help you reflect on where you are now, where you want to be, and what steps you need to take to get there. They work with you to identify and overcome obstacles preventing you from reaching your goals and will help you make lasting changes in your life.

high leverage ways to get paying coaching clients (with PIES)

(NOTE: Want to replace your full time income so you can transition to coaching for a living? Then you need to watch this video. In the video, I’ll explain the high leverage “PIES” strategy to best get paying clients. Click HERE now to watch the video.)

The duties of a personal life coach include:

  1. Helping their clients clarify their goals and priorities, then creating a plan to help them reach the goals.
  2. Providing support and encouragement when the client needs it.
  3. Helping people deal with issues blocking their path to success, such as depression, anxiety, or problems with relationships or family members.
  4. Keeping an open mind about their client’s situation and helping them set realistic expectations for themselves and their life coaching journey.
  5. Helping people learn new skills, such as time management, goal setting, and assertiveness training.

To be a personal coach, there are no mandatory requirements, but coaches normally complete an approved training program. This can be done through an accredited university, college, or community college, an accredited non-degree program with specific minimum hours of training, or other recognized courses that meet the standards set by the International Coach Federation (ICF).

Can You Make Good Money as a Personal Life Coach?

The field of personal coaching is growing at an incredible rate. According to the International Coach Federation (ICF), the life coaching industry is expected to reach USD20 billion by this year. If you are interested in becoming a personal life coach, you should know that making good money as a personal coach is possible—but it’s not easy.

Personal Coach Salary: Average Earnings

Most personal coaches are self-employed, so the average earnings for a personal coach will depend on their experience, education, and skill set. According to ZipRecruiter, the average personal coach salary is anywhere between $50,000 to $60,000.

Apart from coaching clients, personal coaches also earn income from other sources. They may have side businesses that provide services such as consulting with clients on non-coaching matters. They can also make money by writing books or articles on their coaching topics. Some coaches also earn income from affiliate programs with companies that sell products related to their coaching services.

Factors Affecting a Personal Coach’s Salary

As with most jobs, there are several factors that affect a personal coach’s salary. These include:

  1. Experience: The more experience you have as a coach, the more likely you will be paid well. This is especially true if you specialize in one type of coaching or another. For example, suppose you’re an executive coach whose client base consists mainly of high-level executives at Fortune 500 companies. In that case, they’ll likely want to pay you more than they would a personal counselor who works with individuals and families on a smaller scale.
  2. Location of practice. Like other professions, location affects what you can charge for your services and how much you’ll earn through them. If you work in New York City or San Francisco, where the cost of living is high and demand for personal trainers is high too, you’ll likely get paid more.
  3. Education. The more education a personal coach has, the more money they will likely make.

Conclusion

In the end, the average personal coach salary depends on what skills you bring to the position. Experience, certifications, reputation, and location will all contribute significantly to a personal coach’s salary. Fortunately, experience and reputation can be built over time, so it may not be difficult for you to transition from a starting salary to a much higher one in the future.
