The Demand for Wellness Coach Training Programs

July 27, 2017 by Jeffrey T. Sooey Leave a Comment

The demand for wellness coach training programs is high and it’s going to increase in the next several years. There is a growing demand for credentialed health and wellness coaches and training programs will need to satisfy this demand.

Health and Wellness Coaching is Unique

Many coach programs cater to potential life coaches and teach in a general sense. Health and wellness coaching, like other segments of the coaching industry (money coaching, career coaching, executive coaching, etc.), requires a special set of skills that are not usually taught in basic life coach training programs.

It is important to look for health and wellness coach training programs, and not just one that offers basic training, when seeking to acquire the skills needed to enter the health and wellness coaching field. A basic program will generally not provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this highly competitive field. A health and wellness coach training program can offer this specialized type of training.

Why Demand is Increasing for Health and Wellness Coaches

If you want to be in a field where demand will push supply, health and wellness coaching is the right place! Health and wellness coach training programs will attempt to meet this demand by offering training to more individuals so they have the skills, tools, and knowledge to meet the needs of more and more people seeking out health and wellness coaching.

This growing demand comes about for various reasons, including:

  • Rising health care costs. Individuals, health care providers, and insurance carriers are seeking ways to slow down the rising cost of health insurance and health care. Health coaches can provide clients with valuable information without having to see a physician.
  • Health care providers, HMOs, and insurance companies are beginning to realize the benefits of using health coaches to supplement the care they provide their customers.
  • Health and wellness coaches can help their customers avoid preventable diseases like diabetes and obesity, which will help reduce the reliance on doctor’s visits, prescriptions, and hospital visits.
  • Health and wellness coaches are the perfect solution for information deficiency – they can offer information on how to prevent disease, modify lifestyle habits, nutrition, and exercise.
  • Employers are beginning to see the need for in-house health coaches to improve employee health and productivity.

The Job Outlook for Health Coaches

Rising health care costs, the obesity problem, and the impact of lifestyle choices on health have made Americans more conscious about their health and wellness. With more people becoming aware of the need to be healthy, there will be an increased demand for wellness coaches. This need will push the demand for more wellness coach training programs.

This demand will not stagnate any time soon. From watching the news, it is easy to see that health care costs will continue to rise, and the debate over quality health care will not be solved by either the government or private companies. Individuals will need to take matters into their own hands, and to get help, they will turn to health and wellness coaches. And these health and wellness coaches will turn to quality wellness coach training programs to become knowledgeable, skilled, and credentialed.
