In the past, I have written about finding a niche in the coaching field, and getting a niche motivational coach certificationis a great option for experienced or new coaches. This brings up the question – what is a niche and what is a good niche field in which to pursue a motivational coach certification?
What is a Coaching Niche?
A niche is merely some segment of the coaching field that is more specific. For example, life coaching is not a niche, but life coaching for children of Alzheimer’s victims is a niche. Executive coaching is not a niche, but executive coaching for women CEOs would be considered a niche. A niche is a specialized segment of a coaching field.
The best niches are high demand areas where there is little or no competition. The big fish in a small pond scenario can work out to be extremely profitable if you select your niche wisely.
Though there are many different niches to jump into, some will undoubtedly will be more profitable than others. Some may offer motivational coach certifications while others may not. Though a motivational coach certification may not be available in certain fields, you can use your basic coaching certification to gain credibility while specializing in a specific area. For example, you can be a career coach for former strippers with only a career coaching certification ( I doubt any program offers a certification in former stripper career coaching!).
The Hottest Motivational Coach Certification
There is a relatively new niche that is already in high demand, will certainly experience even greater demand in the years ahead, and has little true competition. What is this niche, you ask? Motivational coaching for diabetes patients. Diabetes has become one of the most critical health concerns in the United States and the world. Over 25 million Americans suffer from diabetes. Though wellness, health, and fitness coaches address exercise, diet, and lifestyle issues, a diabetes coach would specialize in motivating diabetes patients to alter their lifestyles. That would be your niche. Because of the huge numbers of people suffering from diabetes or who are currently pre-diabetic, this is a high demand area. And so far, there is not very much competition.
Getting a coaching certification for diabetes patients may not be as easy as obtaining other certifications as not many programs offer this. However, if you browse the Internet, you will find that a few programs offer this type of certification.
What can you do with your motivational coach certification for diabetes patients? Well, most importantly, you can help diabetes patients and those suffering pre-diabetic conditions to overcome the disease. You can also:
- Work with clients to develop healthy eating habits.
- Help clients learn to enjoy exercise and work with them on developing effective individual exercise plans and goals.
- Use behavioral therapy techniques to change your clients’ minds and their lives.
- Help change the world by stopping a disease that has become one of the biggest health concerns of our time.
- Build up your practice in a field that is wide open. Your head start in this niche will help you quickly gain credibility. By being one of the few coaches in this field, your reputation will soon be a selling point.
- Use your learned skills and the big fish in a small pond scenario to build up a practice that is both highly profitable and hugely rewarding.
A motivational coach certification is a ticket to a rewarding and profitable career; one that specializes in diabetes patients is even better. Being a coach is great, being a coach in a high-demand niche field is even better. Any coach who wants to build up a practice while helping to change lives should consider this niche – there are plenty of prospective clients and not too much competition…yet.

Some really good ideas for coaching. I know that more people need coaching especially when in comes to their health. You have given me some food for thought ( diabetic friendly food only).
I know my stepmom had a coach for dealing with cancer…especially a very late stage cancer. It was hard and she was scared. Of course, the family helped as much, but I think her coach was a bigger help.
Just wondering if there’s any evidence that motivational coaches earn a good living? It’s a great idea and the need is there but is the prospect motivated to pay for the coaching or are they used to getting support for free or under insurance and therefore not likely to invest?
