Life Coaching Degree Unraveled in 5 Minutes…

Have you placed a dream on a shelf? Maybe it’s time to dust off the idea and rediscover the passionate pursuit of possibilities through life coaching.

Do You Need a Life Coaching Degree to Become a Life Coach?

One of the most successful speakers, coaches, and authors in the field of personal development, Bob Proctor didn’t graduate from high school and entered into his field with zero formal education or a life coaching degree. Tony Robbins originally worked as a janitor and like Bob Proctor, Robbins is one of the most successful and influential authors, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and life coaches in history.

None of them have a life coaching degree but they possess a different kind of degree – a degree in transformation, people skill and the necessary boldness to serve others and help transform the world.

What Kind of Education Do You Need to Become a Life Coach?

While there are no specific educational requirements for becoming a life coach, colleges and universities offer an abundance of online degree programs and college courses.

Life coaching courses are normally offered as part of a coaching certificate program or an undergraduate or graduate degree program in counseling or other related fields. Courses for life coaches will focus on important concepts such as motivation techniques, counseling, cognitive approaches, psychology, and behavioral approaches.

Programs are of varying length, and some are offered online or through university extension departments. Whether you desire a four-year college degree, a master’s degree, PH.D or training certificate, becoming a life coach through this route is not only possible but manageable and easy.

However, if the thought of spending money and time at school or university puts you off, the answer could be an Internet course in life coaching offered by various for-profit and non-profit educational institutions. These options often lead to professional certification.

In addition, some private organizations offer in-person or self-learning courses on life coaching. Courses aim to provide students with techniques and skills that can help them guide their future clients toward professional or personal goals.

Some Other Things to Consider…

Study of any kind, done properly, is time-consuming. Much of the first and second months or years of studying to be a life coach will involve organizing your life around your studies.

Before you sign up for a course there are some important issues to consider. Take your time deciding what you want or need to do.

Be Realistic – Look closely at the life coaching course you want to do. There is really no point in taking on a life coaching course if you have always hated people. Do you think you will be up to the challenge?

Look at the Limitations of Your Time – For those with families and other outside commitments, this is essential. Consider how much time will they take up, the assignments and any other projects. Will you actually have the time to commit to it and do it?

Think of the Possible Effect on Your Family – Your family and those you spend your lives with, need reminders that we haven’t forgotten them. Studying to be a life coach is about them as well, as they are affected. They will need attention as you focus on your studies.

Take Good Care of Yourself – For some people, stress can be a big problem particularly as they have probably been out of education for a very long time. They worry about assignments, other projects and whether they could manage it all. There is a need to look after your health a little more, with exercise, good food and most importantly enough sleep.

Is it all worth it in the end? Definitely. There is a great sense of achievement and it clearly shows you can learn to be a life coach at any time of your life, once you have the will and the time.
