How To Get Life Coaching Clients Through Seduction

August 10, 2011 by Colette Coiner, PCC 3 Comments

It sounds a bit unethical to think about how to get life coaching clients through seduction. When you think about it though, shoving coaching down people’s throats isn’t the way to go either. Exploring the art of how to get life coach clients without being salesy or pushy is appealing, especially since that seems to be they way most coaches do it. If you want to be able to enroll new clients before you become a sales superstar, there is hope.

How To Get Life Coaching Clients To Want You

Let’s start by thinking about how to get life coaching clients not to want you. It’s a bit like dating. There are steps to go through to get from meeting someone to marrying them. When I first met my husband at a friends’ house, I thought he was interesting enough to talk to again. If he had asked me to marry him on that first meeting, I would have thought there was something wrong with him and that would have ended any possible romance. I wasn’t emotionally engaged enough to think about a long term relationship at that time. In coaching it’s the same. You need your potential clients to emotionally see you as the access to having the life of their dreams.

Flirting With Potential Clients

I’m not advocating flirting with your coaching clients by talking in a deep, husky voice or telling them you’re dressed in your lacey pajamas. But there is an art of creating uncertainty in where the conversation is going. How to get life coaching clients is not to have the attitude of, “I’ll coach anyone. That sounds too much like “I’ll date anyone.” That’s desperation. I let people know that the reason I do a free session is to see if coaching together might be a mutual fit and that I only work with a select few. It’s not a lie, it’s true. I value my time too much to work with people who are not a good fit.

They key to how to get life coaching clients is similar to dating. You want to provide enough value that they want to talk to you again and that they see you as the access to having the life they want because you have provided so much value. It’s only then do you think about taking the relationship to the next level because just like in dating, being too easy doesn’t pay off.

Give this strategy a try and see for yourself that it works. If you liked this coaching tip, leave a comment or use the handy bookmark buttons below to share it with others on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc. Thanks!

I think your approach makes perfect sense, especially when we’re talking about something that is really rather intimate afterall. Not many people would be willing to open up about their lives or dreams with someone until there’s a level of trust established.

Great post! This reminds me a lot of the attraction marketing model for network marketers. That being said, using that as an example, I know that there have been times where someone presented what was an obvious red flag, but I didn’t end the interview right there to tell them that it wouldn’t work. I didn’t get the membership, anyway, and I ended up kicking myself at being so desperate. That is when I learned that I would never do that again. I can tell you that this way of doing things doesn’t work, so it’s better to talk to people in a way that keeps both people’s dignity intact.

Love the dating analogy—building trust and mutual fit is so important in coaching! Offering value first truly makes all the difference in attracting the right clients. Thanks for this fresh perspective!
