Life coaching is about helping people discover their calling, set their priorities, layout their plan, launch themselves into action, and then helping them stay on track. Life coaching training courses must cover these and other areas. Here are three keys to make sure that your life coach training prepares you to be a particularly effective and happy life coach.
Live Coaching Effectiveness Can Hinge on Commonalities
You can certainly argue that a great coach can successfully coach anyone on anything, but the fact is that sharing a common set of beliefs and common experiences can give the coach insights and credibility that can increase their effectiveness. So, as you formulate your life coaching practice, consider defining your target client set based on your values, experiences and insights. Likewise as you evaluate life coaching training courses, consider programs that reflect your beliefs and values.
Life Coaching Training Courses Must Include Application
Coaching is all about application. A coach must be able to apply lessons from coaching science, like NPL, and the life coach must also understand areas like which professions will most likely offer fulfillment to a certain client. If financial issues come up, the coach must understand basic financial principles to give basic guidance and to know when to recommend a financial professional that mirrors the client’s values. Life coaching training courses should include basic information on finances, life style choices, health and professions, among other topics to help equip the life coach to help their client.
Insist on Lots of Coaching in the Program You Select
Finally, I must mention my personal crusade: including plenty of coaching and being coached in any coaches training program. You can get all the “book learning” you can hold, but if you don’t get a lot of guided coaching and being coached then you may never learn how to actually coach, and if you do, it will be at the expense of your clients. So whatever else you look for in your life coaching training courses, insist on a very big component of rigorous coaching.
If you let these three keys be your guide – build your practice on commonalities, learn how to share and apply life principles with your client, and insist on lots of guided coaching and being coached – then you will be well on your way to a successful life coaching practice.
