An executive leadership coach seems like the perfect fit for a CEO – they can offer skills and knowledge to help CEOS reach their leadership and management potential. But CEOS aren’t in the habit of seeking out the services of an executive coach.

CEOS Want Coaching But Don’t Look For It
A study a few years back by the Stanford Business School found that nearly half of all senior managers aren’t using an executive coach, and that nearly two-thirds of all CEOS don’t receive any executive leadership coaching.
Despite these numbers, other studies have found that nearly all CEOs and senior managers want coaching to enhance and improve their leadership and management skills.
Executives and CEOs want coaching but they don’t seek it out.
Perhaps CEOs don’t know exactly what coaching provides. Perhaps that don’t understand the value that an executive leadership coach can have in helping them with personal and leadership development.
Be an Executive Leadership Coach Who CEOs Seek Out
To get the attention of CEOs and get them to go from potential clients to clients takes knowledge of what you have to offer in your coaching that can help them. Since CEOs have already reached a high level of success, they must already be doing something right. You need to focus on something that they may be lacking.
Coaching and Self-Awareness
A few studies have shown that with increased power comes an increase in confidence and self-centeredness. CEOs and high-level executives have plenty of power, but they may be lacking self-awareness.
Self-knowledge and self-awareness are central to an executive’s ability to create, articulate, disseminate, and lead a strategic vision and plan within an organizational framework. This is perhaps, the most important role of a CEO or executive. This is where executive leadership coaching can help. This is where an executive leadership coach can target their services and focus their marketing.
Marketing Your Executive Coaching Services
Here are a few tips for any executive leadership coach when it comes to reaching those CEOs who may want your services but who don’t feel that they can derive any benefit from your services.
- Know your target market. What CEOs could use your services? What CEO may be struggling to succeed – look for companies that are not doing as well as they should.
- Know your stuff. Do you have the outcomes CEOs and executives are seeking? Do you have the high-level skills and coaching tools that can help powerful, confident individuals become even better at their jobs?
- Know the business before you begin to market. Coaching is usually more about the individual than they business they manage. However, with high-powered people, you definitely have to know your stuff. Learn about the business, the market they’re in, and the competition.
- Be able to offer assessments and measurements whenever needed. CEOs and executives often deal with numbers, and if you can provide numbers that measure success in your coaching sessions, you’ll be talking their language!
