What’s The Secret to Become a Business Coach? How to Think Like a Business Owner to Explode Your Business Coaching Salary

June 7, 2009 by Jeffrey T. Sooey 1 Comment

Are you thinking about how to become a business coach or just increasing your business coaching salary?  In order to become a business coach you need to think like a business owner (or at least know how to think like a business owner at times).  Your business coaching salary is going to increase only if you know how to talk to business owners, and if your talking follows your thinking.

To Become a Business Coach and Pull in a Nice Business Coaching Salary, First Get Real About How Most People (Non-Business Owners) Think

Most people think that results in business or in life comes from DOING things (and it’s understandable why they would think that way).  Isn’t it obvious that doing something will produce a result? Isn’t it obvious that in life all results come from DOING things?  Action… isn’t that what life (and for that matter, coaching) is all about?

The fact is that actions are the way most people think, and they are so busy doing things that they never stop to design their business (or their life for that matter).  To become a business coach you need to operate on a level above DOING.  You have to DO more than just DOING ACTIONS.  In fact, if that’s the way you think, the business owners you attract will be unsuccessful and you won’t be able to help then much.  The more successful business owners will not allow you to coach them (rather they will feel that they should probably be coaching YOU on how to increase your business coaching salary).

What Most Life Coaches Think They Need to do to Become a Business Coach (The Most Esoteric Way to Create a Business Coaching Salary)

Most coaches take more of an esoteric approach to become a business coach.  There’s nothing wrong with thinking in esoteric ways at times, in fact it may help, but business owners will expect more from you as their coach, especially if you are to have a consistent business coaching salary.

Coaches understand the concept that DOING just leads to more DOING and that there’s much more power in BEING.  BEING creates enlightened power, rather than bulldozing force.  Force works only once, while POWER works over and over again with no additional effort.  Being is a bit esoteric (see “The Secret” or “What the BLEEP to we Know?” movies).  It’s very interesting and tends to produce results, but it’s hard to pin down exactly what it is.  Is BEING all about State of Mind?  Is being about Magic?

Thinking about BEING and operating under BEING rather than DOING is a step in the right direction, but (as most people that want to become a business coach do) if this is as far as you go with your business coaching clients, you’ll leave them without an ounce of REAL value and they’ll wonder if you are worth your business coaching salary.

Remember that the first step out of this ‘box’ that people and coaches create for themselves, is to know it’s there and then at least to connect being and doing together.  That will give you a fighting chance and it will bring new connections to light for your business coaching clients so you can enjoy a higher business coaching salary and become a business coach that you admire.

Thanks for the post. You have come up in two recent google alerts for life coaching. I have not seen that happen for any other site in the last couple of months. Would you be willing to share what SEO activities you have done recently?
