What Opportunities Are There in a Wellness Coach Career?

April 26, 2017 by Fred Phillips 1 Comment

A wellness coach career will put you in one of the fastest growing industries in the nation. The health and wellness field is hot – the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the field will grow 25% more than the average industry over the next several years.

Wellness Coaches Mean Prevention

With estimates of 50-75% of health care costs due to preventable diseases related to lifestyle behaviors, a wellness coach offers the potential for affordable solutions for individuals, companies, and governmental agencies. A wellness coach can work with clients to change behavior, learn healthy habits, and avoid many of these preventable and chronic diseases.

Why a Wellness Coach Career?

There are many reasons to consider a wellness coaching career. Here are a few of them:

  • The first one has already been mentioned – it’s a growing field that will provide numerous opportunities in the next several years.
  • Flexible environments – work for yourself, as part of a corporation, as part of a health and wellness company, or for the government.
  • Work in many different niches – choose your own career path and the type of clients with whom you want to work.
  • Work to help heal our country, one client at a time.
  • Work to provide clients with ways to stay healthy and learn healthy lifestyle and life-long habits.
  • Work in a health-conscious environment and keep on the cutting edge of health and wellness knowledge.

A Wellness Coach Career in Many Environments

The second reason listed above offers tremendous flexibility and opportunity. Individuals want help from coaches they can trust, and who have the knowledge and skills to help them make changes in the habits and choices.

A career in wellness gives you plenty of opportunity. Here are a few of the environments in which wellness coaches work:

  • Physicians’ offices – helping doctors work with patients and allowing doctors to spend more time with the patients who need it.
  • Hospitals – helping doctors and nurses with care and recovery, and with dispensing knowledge on long-term changes.
  • Residential care facilities – working with the elderly to improve quality of life issues and longevity.
  • Health insurance companies – from insurance companies to HMOs, coaches can help lower costs and improve care.
  • Employers – large employers are realizing the benefits of using wellness coaches in keeping their employees healthy and improving employee productivity.
  • Health clubs – work with clients to help them get in shape and learning healthy fitness and nutrition habits.
  • Government and community organizations – work with clients or in research to improve the health of the community or the nation.
  • Work for yourself. A wellness coach career can lead to entrepreneurship. You can own your own business, set your own hours, and become the coach you want to be.

Live Your Dream as a Wellness Coach

If you dream of helping people, and if you love health, wellness, nutrition, and fitness, a wellness coach career is the way to go. The door to a great career is ready to be opened. The industry is growing and there’s plenty of room for passionate and skilled health and wellness coaches.
