Three Essential Elements in Life Coaching

How do you get started as a life coach? There are three important elements involved in becoming a life coach and they are training, skills and education.

Training – When it comes to training, there are many life coaching schools that offer courses and some even offer accreditation. If you plan to take any of these life coaching courses, first look into the costs involved. Often an inexpensive introductory course or program is offered only to get you started. Since costs can add up quickly, check into the length of time, the number of additional courses required and make sure to read reviews by students Another important point to check for is whether or not the coach training school provides adequate tools for practical application when working with clients. This will be very helpful for new coaches in developing step-by-step methods for life coaching.

Skills – There are a few key skills that are absolutely essential for aspiring coaches. Among the skills you need are good listening skills, creative problem-solving skills and considerable knowledge of human behavior. You also need to be able to set goals and develop plans of action to achieve your goals.

Patience and the ability to deal with frustration or different types of people are critical. Clients don’t always do what they agree to do and getting people to suddenly give up negative behavior patterns can be a real challenge. You need to know how to motivate others and be creative in overcoming obstacles and objections. You also have to really love and care about people.

Education – A life coach should enjoy learning new things in order to stay informed of current advances and trends. The areas that require continuous learning are psychology, goal setting, motivation, cognitive psychology, cognitive science, human behavior, successful habits, business principles, principles of success, career development, addictions, leadership, sales and more. You must be a relentless student of these subjects.

So, to answer the question “How Do I Start Being a Life Coach?” – the answer is by enrolling in a good coach training school that is run by real successful coaches. Life coaching is a dynamic field and being able to actually help people create the life changes they want is a highly rewarding and exciting career.
