What does it mean to be a signature coach, and what makes coaches training signature coaching training? Do you have to go to a school that explicitly teaches signature coaching or can you craft your own signature coaching program? And what are the benefits? Here are some answers that will help you be more effective at helping your clients, and probably put more money in your packet!
What Is a Signature Coach?
Signature coaching is a phrase that has come to refer to a type of coaching that specializes in solving a particular problem. The coach becomes an expert in that specific problem area and the areas of coaching that can be used to help clients deal with those problems. And while the term is not used universally, it points to some professional strategies that every coach can benefit from.
Planning Your Signature Coaching Training
Signature coaches are not generalists. So first, focus on the problem area. Make sure it really interests you. Perhaps you have years of experience in that area – like financial planning or management – and adding formal coaching skills to your “tool belt” will increase your effectiveness.
The next step is to identify your target market. The clearer your picture of your target clients, and their specific problems, the easier they are to find and the stronger your message will resonate with them.
Now, for your signature coaching training. It must cover coaching, it must cover the background of the area where the problem exists, and it also must help you create business development strategies and plans for your specific target clients.
I personally believe that a broad knowledge of coaching and that specialization in areas that are more helpful than others in addressing a particular problem are both essential. It is not a matter of either-or.
Once you know what you are looking for, you can choose a specialized signature coaching training program, or you can create your own program at the right, less specialized coaching school.
Why Might You Want to Be One?
As I implied above, good signature coaches are experts in a particular area. They also have a broad knowledge of coaching, as well as specialized knowledge in some particularly powerful areas. They know what their target clients look like and how to find them. And finally, they know how to specifically address their prospective clients in ways that really resonate with them. Add these up and you get the opportunity to help people in a deeper way, and probably earning more money in the process, which makes signature coaching training a pretty attractive option.
