Recently there have been some life coaching sex scandals that have come up in the news. It reminds me of a quote by John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton (1834-1902). He wrote, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” With so many life coaches out there aspiring to be great, it looks like more coaching scandals are store for the future.

Life Coaching Technology Can Be Dangerously Powerful

The power to radically shift someone’s mindset in a single session creates the potential to use life coaching technology for evil instead of good. Especially when using NLP and other state changing mediums. A man who called himself a “life coach” was arrested last month after being accused of sexually assaulting women during meditation sessions. That is just horrible. Is there any decency left in this world?
But what about the rest of us who are committed to serving with love and commitment to a higher good? Most coaches are committed to serving their clients and helping them lead authentic lives. In fact many coaches struggle with the value of serving selflessly and not wanting to get anything in return. What about those of us who stand for integrity and accountability? Are we going to be thrown into the same slimy group as people who take advantage of their clients for their own personal gain?

Are Life Coaching Sex Scandals An Inevitable Part of The Future?

Right now, almost anyone call himself or herself a life coach. As the field develops and matures, there may eventually be a licensing body that mandates who can use the term life coach and who cannot. This would perhaps be similar to the medical profession where they submit to the Hippocratic Oath upon graduation from medical school.
