Life coaching should be fun and exciting, just like the county fair.  In addition to a lot of great attractions and exhibits, there are a lot of interesting people to watch at the fair.  From the moment you enter the mammoth lines to get into the fairgrounds, you become part of the crowd.  I don’t know how else to explain it, but this crowd becomes part of your new peer group.

Not Your Usual Life Coaching Peer Group

Only at the fair can you buy a huge turkey drumstick and walk around eating it without looking too out of place.  My husband likes to research what’s new, and this year he found, “Deep Fried Butter.”  Never in my life have I considered eating a stick of butter, but my curiosity was peaked as to how they were able to prepare such a delicacy.  As a 300 pound woman walked up to the window to place her order, I couldn’t help but wonder if she would ever consider coaching.

Breaking Away From A Dis-empowering Peer Group

Even though I thought I would be satisfied with my grilled corn on the cob, my husband tempted me with his beer battered fried potato slices with cheese and ranch dressing.  A few minutes later my stomach let me know that it was a mistake.  I survived the temporary discomfort vowing, “Never again.”  What is it about the fair that causes my husband to eat things he would never eat anywhere else?

If you want to make changes in your life, life coaching isn’t enough.  You need to surround yourself with like minded individuals and a peer group who is honest enough to hold you to a higher standard.  Because let’s face it, in many ways we are sheep.  We want to belong.  And if your flock is about to walk over a cliff, you are going with them.  Alternatively if your flock is on the way to greener pastures, you will find your life changing for the better.
