Personal Growth is the Backbone of all Coaching

Whatever your specialty or nice in the coaching world, you are there to help clients find joy, purpose, achievement, balance, and growth in their lives.  When you do this, you help your clients find the skills they need to grow, and plan a way to get to their goals.

Personal Growth Coaching Starts With Inquiry and Assessments

To be able to measure coaching and client success, you need a baseline from which to compare. This is why it is essential to create a questionnaire that accurately measures where the client is the moment you begin the very first assessment.

Coaching Questionnaire

Your coaching questionnaire should contain question designed to gather information about your client – their current situation, their goals and dreams, the obstacles they perceive standing in the way of their success, and other extraneous information about their lives (relationships, work, hobbies, bad habits, etc.) These questions are designed to make you more familiar with your client and give you a baseline from which to coach. You can use questions such as these:

What 3 things…?

What are your top 3…?

On a scale of 1-10, how do you rate your…?

What is the most important…?

What are the most important…?

What is the number 1…?

Just completing these questions for a variety of different subjects and categories will give you a great start on a personal growth coaching questionnaire.

Personal Growth Coaching and Coaching Niches

Because personal growth is a core component of all coaching, you can take it and narrow it down into many different niches. There are dozens of niches you can create to make yourself a big fish in a small pond. Narrow your target market to make it easier to promote, and to make it easier to become an expert in your chosen niche.

Here are a few coaching niches that require an emphasis on personal growth coaching:

  • Life skills
  • Dating
  • Relationships
  • Parenting
  • Retirement skills (learning how to survive and enjoy retirement)
  • Personal development

Before narrowing your practice and placing yourself in a niche, you need to make sure it’s right for you. One of the ways to do this is to consider three factors:

  • Expertise – can you provide the outcomes clients are seeking?
  • Enthusiasm – do you have the passion for this field – both to learn as much as possible about the nice through continuous education, and to effectively coach people within this niche?
  • Money – yes, money and profit matters. There must be a clearly defined market, and one, though smaller than a general market, large enough to be profitable.

You are a Personal Growth Coach

No matter what you coach, you can think of yourself as a personal growth coach. You are constantly helping your clients grow, improving their life skills, eliminating obstacles and bad habits, and reaching their dreams. That is why all coaching is really personal growth coaching.

All coaching can be considered personal growth coaching since coaching involves the growth of your client in whatever area he/she feels he/she needs your help. Your expertise may lie in a particular niche but the basics are the same.

  2. Chuckie Moore says

There are definite areas for personal growth coaching and one must consider if one has the expertise, the passion, and the market for the profitability factor before one narrows down his choice and decides on a niche – this holds true for all kinds of coaching.

  3. Sherly says

One must be capable of knowing when they themselves are in need of personal growth coaching to truly become one.
