A Cautionary Tale From The Swamp Of Life Coach Marketing

September 10, 2010 by Jeffrey T. Sooey 2 Comments

A plaque on my brother-in-law’s wall brings to mind my current experience with internet life coach marketing. When you are up to your ass in alligators, it is difficult to remind yourself that your initial objective was to drain the swamp.

The process of getting my internet life coach marketing up and running has taken over my life for the last month or so.   I wasn’t quite ready to tackle that particular swamp, but coaching has given me the “be unstoppable” mentality, so the opportunity to participate in the JTS Internet Marketing Machine Retreat was one I couldn’t pass up.  My intent was to have my machine set up and ready to go by the end of the five days so I could start attracting coaching leads via the internet.  Well,  the retreat was amazing and all the information and assistance everyone needed was available to us.  But like I said, I wasn’t quite ready, so alligator wrestling has been a major activity in my life coach marketing swamp.  When the tasks on the way to one of your goals feel like alligators, here are some tips you can use to remind yourself what the real goal is.

Don’t Let Life Coach Marketing Take Over Your Life

Since the retreat, I have focused mostly on my internet life coach marketing machine.  My actual coaching of course took priority, but other than that, I flipped a delay switch on most of the other business and personal activities I would normally be doing.  And there’s where the coaching comes in.  Life and business go on no matter how many alligators there are.  Yes it’s important to get the marketing set up, but it’s also important to keep up your lead generation, complimentary calls, paperwork and all the other tasks you need to do to keep your business going.  Setting up your life coach marketing is a time consuming enterprise, so remember to budget time for the other parts of your business so it doesn’t fall apart while you are preoccupied.

Staying In Integrity When You Face A Challenge

Possibly the most life-changing coaching I’ve had has been around personal integrity–what it means and what it means when I’m not in it.  This task of setting up an internet life coach marketing machine has been a huge challenge for me and for some, although not all, the others who were at the retreat.  Part of the challenge has been keeping my agreements on when I would phone or send material to the technical people who are helping me out.  Maintaining my integrity at various points in the process has been difficult.  Yet every time I did it, I calmed down and found it easier to proceed to the next step.  The coaching lesson?  Keeping commitments not only moves you forward, but also keeps you grounded and calm.  In turmoil or frustration, you always have someone to count on if you are a person of your word.  And if you falter, then acknowledge what you did, apologize, and commit to changing in whatever way is necessary so that it won’t happen again.

Give this strategy a try and see for yourself that it works. If you liked this coaching tip, leave a comment or use the handy bookmark buttons below to share it with others on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc. Thanks!

I’ve visited your site several times, and enjoy it. Nice job. Hope you won’t get too stressed about marketing, but that you’ll concentrate on being yourself and giving your best to others. Take care!
