Do you want to be an average salary life coach? Or do you want to be a superstar salary life coach? Is it even possible to earn a superstar salary as a coach?

Who Wants to Be an Average Salary Life Coach?
Most people dream big. They look around the Internet and see plenty of hype about coaching. Earn this or that amount as a life coach!
But, most people end up earning an average salary in whatever profession they choose. Most people aren’t Donald Trump or Jeff Bezos or, to use an example from the coaching world, Tony Robbins.
What is an Average Life Coaching Salary?
The International Coach Federation (ICF) studies the coaching market, and in 2012 they found that the average coaching salary was over $83,000 per year, while part-time coaches made $26,000 per year. The Sherpa Study from 2011 found that average coaching salaries ranged from $55,000 to $116,000.
As the coaching profession continues to grow and command more respect, salaries will rise even more. With the economy on a constant roller coaster and a highly dynamic and ever-changing job market, the demand for coaches will certainly grow. So, being an average salary life coach isn’t that bad – you can make a decent living, have a rewarding career at the same time, and your salary should continue to grow as demand grows.
How to Earn More than an Average Coaching Salary
Though being an average salary life coach is really not a bad gig, many coaches dream bigger than average. They want to make more money and help more people. Earning $83,000 is pretty good, but you may want to earn six figures and more.
Here are three ways to boost your coaching income and start making more than your average salary life coaching peers.
- Finding a specialty or niche. It’s hard to be everything to everyone. It’s difficult to be a small fish in a big pond and find enough food to survive. However, there is more food (income) for you when you are a big fish in a small pond. You can focus on coaching to a specific group of people or focus on specific outcomes. Either way, you can more easily establish yourself as an expert in a specialty when you narrow your target market and focus.
- Capitalize on writing and speaking. You can write for blogs or magazines, create your own books, or pen articles for the Internet. You can get paid to speak or speak for free at various community and industry events. Writing and speaking help you build an audience, establish credibility and expertise, and make more money.
- Diversify your income. Most highly successful coaches do much more than coach. We’ve already mentioned writing and speaking, but there’s much more you can do to not be an average salary life coach. Coaching training, surveys, assessments, counseling, seminars, and group coaching all add to income. Books, DVDs, and other motivational products can greatly enhance income. The more income streams the more money, and the more likely you are going to make a superstar coaching salary!
