What is a Fitness Nutrition Coach?

August 13, 2014 by Fred Phillips 1 Comment

What is a fitness nutrition coach and does it have the potential to be a financially rewarding career? Is it something that an ambitious coach should consider?

If you would rather sit in your Lazy-Boy and watch a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills marathon than go for a bike ride or a long hike, this might not be the career for you? If you prefer a box of Cheez-Its rather than a nutritious home-cooked meal, than you might want to stay away from the fitness and nutrition field.

However, if you like to get off you butt and be active, and also enjoy eating healthy, you might want to know exactly what a fitness nutrition coach is.

What is a Fitness Nutrition Coach?

Since you asked the question: What is a fitness nutrition coach? – Here’s the answer. A fitness and nutrition coach helps people learn healthy eating and exercise habits and inspires them to make positive lifestyle changes and get in the best shape of their lives.

A fitness nutrition coach can also be called a wellness coach, a health coach, or a health and wellness coach. This type of coach is more than a dietician or a personal trainer. Though a wellness coach is not a doctor, medical issues are addressed. Though a health coach is not a psychiatrist, behavior is identified and modified. Fitness and nutrition coaches can work in a health clinic, at a spa, for a sports clinic, at a private fitness studio, or for themselves.

What is a Fitness Nutrition Coach and is it Really a Great Business?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the fitness industry is expected to grow by 29 percent by 2018. Wages in the field have an average range from $45,000 to over $60,000. As the field grows, salaries and income potential will also increase.

Coaches who specialize in certain groups may command higher salaries. Working with specialized populations will put you in higher demand. Working with senior citizens, obese children, diabetics, people with heart disease, or disabled veterans is a great way to increase your earning potential and help those with a greater need.
