To become a personal coach or not, that is the question. Do you want the rewards of helping people achieve their goals and dreams while you achieve personal success? If not, forget the personal coaching gig, it is too rewarding and potentially too profitable.
To become a personal coach you need to ask yourself a few questions. Make sure to be honest when you answer or you will only be fooling yourself.
To Become a Personal Coach or Not
Here are the questions:
- Do you have a burning passion to help others in their quest for personal success, achievement, and happiness? Do you have the internal flame that pushes you to help others achieve financial, personal, and career success?
- Do you have the work ethic to succeed? Do you possess the dedication to ensure hard work, the pursuit of knowledge, and the attention to detail that the coaching profession requires?
- Do you want to work in a profession in which your success feeds off the success of others, not in a parasitic manner, but in a symbiotic fashion. Their success helps to bring about your success, and your success motivates them to find their own success. Does this sound like a rewarding career to you?
- Are you a people person? Unless you become an animal coach, to become a personal coach, you have to be a people person. You are dealing with people, their emotions, dreams, personalities, insecurities, and weaknesses.
- Unless you work for a large coaching firm, you will be in business for yourself and you will need to become an entrepreneur. Do you have what it takes to run your own successful business? Can you handle the legal, financial, promotional, and administrative duties of entrepreneurship?
- Do you possess high personal standards and ambitions? Do you have your own burning desire for success? Your own desire for happiness and success will be apparent to your clients and help to motivate them.
- Are you highly self-aware and introspective? Are you able to critique yourself and push yourself to improve on your own insecurities and weaknesses? These traits are essential if you decide to become a personal coach.
- Will you be able to view coaching both as an art and a science – able to work intuitively and instinctively while also continually working to improve your knowledge base and comprehension of coaching skills and techniques?
Answer these questions honestly to see if becoming a personal coach is the right choice for you. You should be answering yes to most, if not all of these questions. That’s right – to become any type of coach, you should have answered in the affirmative on most of those questions. It takes a special personal to be a coach, and an extraordinarily special person to be a successful coach. Are you that special person? To badly paraphrase Shakespeare once again; to become a personal coach or not, that is the question. The right answer will send you on a magical and highly rewarding journey as a coach.
