Start a Life Coaching Business But Don’t Quit Your Day Job Yet

May 16, 2016 by Fred Phillips 1 Comment

Start a life coaching business and you’ll be on your way to six-figure income in no time! You’ve heard it before – become a life coach and you’ll be well on your way to Easy Street.

Coaching is a Great Business But it Isn’t Easy

Starting a life coaching business can be a great career move. It’s great that so many people are leaving their jobs to enter a field that can be unbelievably rewarding and profitable. It’s great that they want to make a career out of helping other people realize their dreams and goals.

However, the sad truth is that coaching programs not only sell their education product, they also sell hype. It’s not illegal or even unethical, but behind the hype is the fact that coaching is both a skill and a business.

Coaching is a Skill and a Business

When you start a life coaching business, be prepared to compete in an industry that requires continually improving coaching skills and a business acumen that all entrepreneurs need to survive and succeed.

So, you definitely need to learn the right coaching skills in order to provide the outcomes potential clients are seeking. However, you also need to learn business skills that help you start a life coaching business and give you the marketing and entrepreneurial skills to push your business forward toward success and prosperity.

Start a Life Coaching Business But Don’t Quit Your Day Job Yet

Many experts recommend you start coaching on a part-time basis. It takes time to build up a client base, and unless you have a stockpile of money in your bank account, you might want to hold onto your day job while you start coaching on the side.

Keeping your main job allows you to pay the bills while you are learning how to coach and how to operate a coaching business. Most coaching programs offer flexibility for the working professional – you can take the courses and complete the programs on your own time. You can also take courses on how to operate a business and how to market and promote – if your coaching program doesn’t offer these, you should look for some at a local college or adult education program.

As you begin to build a client base and a reputation, you will be on your way to a new career.

All Coaching Programs Sell With Hype

Hey, hype sells – it works. It attracts people and gets them motivated to sign on the bottom line. Just because a coaching program offers marketing hype doesn’t mean it’s bad or good. It’s up to you to do your due diligence and research their reputation, reviews, and what courses and skills they provide.

You have to look through the hype and find the substance. When you start a life coaching business, you are on your way to a rewarding career, but it takes hard work and it isn’t easy to become a successful life coach.

Don’t quit your day job right away. Build up your skills, learn how to be an entrepreneur, and start attracting clients. Before you know it, you can say so long to your boss.

I agree with this! Starting a life coaching business was great but also not quitting my day job was important.
