What is the difference between a Christian coaching certification and other life coaching certifications?
- The main difference is that Christian coaching training is based on Biblical principles. Your clients will expect you to help them come up with strategies they can implement based on the Bible.
- Other coach training centers around the client’s goals where as Christian coaching is centered around what God expects of your client in all areas of their life.
- Christian coach training allows you to reference God’s Word and how it might possibly apply to your client’s life. Although it might be helpful in your coaching practice, you do not have to be a Bible scholar or have theological training to get a Christian coaching certification.
- Depending on your personal coaching method and style, you can use your training to work with Christians and non-Christians.

Steps To Obtaining Christian Coaching Certification
Step One. Decide what sort of Christian coach you want to become. Like any other professional coach you can specialize in specific areas and knowing this ahead of time will help you in deciding what course to take to get your Christian coach certificate.
Step Two. Decide what Christian coaching certification course you want to take. This would include deciding if you want to be ICF accredited, your price range, and course topics. You can research your many options on line but below are some different examples to help get you started.
- Professional Christian Coaching & Counseling Academy: They offer a four month course but the thing I found interesting about their course is that you have your own instructor, who will work with you each week via telephone for 50 minutes. You receive personalized training and after you finish the course you get on-going support and help to build your business. http://www.pccca.org/
- Christian Life Coaching: They say they are an ICF accredited school if that is important to you. http://christianlifecoaching.com/
- World Coach Institute: They have Life Coaching foundation courses and add on Christian niche courses if you want to go that way. http://www.worldcoachinstitute.com/
Step Three. Complete the accredited course and gain your certification.
Step Four. If your Christian coaching certification program did not include a marketing course with it, take a basic marketing class.
Step Five. Start coaching.
Becoming a Christian coach is a fulfilling and meaningful coaching career. Getting a Christian coaching certification is a great start in that direction.

Dana,
My question is: How do you know that you are coaching someone in “God’s word” and “God’s path for them” instead of either the client or the coach’s personal beliefs about what is the client’s next steps?

Good article, Dana. I think the key term is “Christ-centered”. Anyone coming to a Christian counselor is probably seeking just that, and would be looking for biblically based counsel. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a Christian Coach, let alone certification for it. It’s encouraging to know there is.

knowing that you differentiate the difference between Christian coaching certification and other life coaching certifications, we are now enlighten. well, getting the Christian coaching certificate is not that easy but still, when you are religious, going through the steps will never be a problem 🙂
Hi Dana,
Very interesting article. I didn’t know that it is so easy to obtain Christian coaching certification. You didn’t mention anything about the faith. How the faith is related to Christian coaching? Thanks.
