Are you a smart fitness coach? No, I’m not asking if you have a genius IQ and also coach fitness? I’m asking if you run a smart fitness coaching practice?

A Smart Coach is a Successful Coach

A smart fitness coach is not only a good coach, he or she is a good business person. A smart fitness coach is a successful fitness coach. You have to be smart in a highly competitive field to attract, obtain, and retain clients. So – are you smart?

How to be a Smart Fitness Coach

Your Business Name

You may not have thought of this one. Sure, naming your business Joe’s Fitness Coaching is fine if you really want your name on the sign. But, will it attract clients? What you really want to do is name your business something that really jumps out at potential clients. Your business is about your clients, not you, and you want a name that speaks to their frustrations, motivations, and goals. Passion For Fitness, Hardcore Fitness, Kick-Ass Fitness, Fitness For Life – these are all decent names that portray your passion for fitness.

It’s best not to use your personal name, don’t try to be too cute (a little cute is fine), and make sure your name is easy to read and remember.

Your Training

You’ve been working out for many years and you know your way around a gym. You took a few anatomy classes in college and know most of the muscles by name. But, is this enough to be a fitness coach? In today’s competitive world, probably not. Training matters – and the more training you get in different areas of fitness will help you better serve your clients. A smart fitness coach will be trained and knowledgeable in various forms of exercise and be able to adapt to the individual needs of different clients.

Your Marketing Plan

I did mention that fitness coaching, and coaching in general are very competitive fields. You must get your name out to the public and you need to stand out from the pack. You need to be able to implement various forms of marketing, and you also need to have the tools to be able to assess what works and what doesn’t work.

You will need to be familiar with social media, traditional advertising, networking, website development and maintenance, and any other possible ways to market and promote your business. If you don’t know how to market, or if you just plain hate marketing (many coaches do), you will need to hire the services of an expert. Marketing matters; without it, your coaching skill will go to waste because you won’t attract any clients.

Your Pursuit of Excellence

If you want to be successful, you have to strive to be the best. Being the best takes dedication and a commitment to providing the best service, having the most knowledge, and offering the ultimate personalized attention to each and every client.

Being a smart fitness coach isn’t just about your brains and your body. It’s about taking the time to give your business the ideal name, getting the right training (and continuing that training), implementing and continually assessing a marketing plan (even if you hate marketing), and never stopping short of providing excellent customer service and care. If you can do that, you are one very smart and skilled fitness coach and you will be one very successful fitness coach.
