5 Great Ways to Get New Life Coaching Clients

May 13, 2014 by Fred Phillips 2 Comments

To be a successful life coach, you need to have a consistent way to get new life coaching clients. There are three principle ways to achieve and maintain success in the coaching business:

  • Get new clients
  • Retain old clients
  • Develop alternative avenues of income – books, DVDs, and other sources.

In this short article, the focus is on getting new life coaching clients – where to find them and how to attract them to your coaching practice. You can use any one of these methods or put all of them into practice to get new life coaching clients.

5 Great Ways to Get New Life Coaching Clients

  1. Seminars. Once you are famous and your name is known around the nation as an expert in life coaching, you can collect thousands of dollars in fees for speaking at seminars. However, as a virtual unknown looking to get clients, you should start by offering free seminars. You don’t need to rent any fancy conference hall – you just need enough room for 20-30 prospects. The one thing you do need to do is to give a great presentation – organized and very informative. You should also provide pamphlets and other supporting material.
  2. Webinars. Webinars are similar to seminars, except that they take place online. Webinars are easy for you – you do not have to rent a room, provide snacks, or create supporting materials. Webinars are easy for your prospects – they don’t have to drive anywhere, look for parking, or sit in an uncomfortable chair. Once again, the presentation is the meat of the matter – it better be damned good or your prospects will be going to another website or switching off their computers.
  3. Email Marketing. The first thing you must realize is that, even though sending an email is easy and email marketing is ubiquitous, people still don’t like to receive hundreds of emails every day promoting this or that product. The only way to even have a chance to get new life coaching clients is to offer something of value for free in your marketing. A good weekly newsletter with informative and interesting content is the best way to get noticed and separate yourself from the crowd.
  4. Free Coaching Sessions. No one wants to give away their services for free. You worked hard to become a life coach and you want to get paid for your time! However, a free coaching session will allow prospective clients to get to know you and your coaching ability. Unless you are completely booked with clients, you should consider free coaching sessions to attract new clients.
  5. Joint Ventures. Most coaches think other coaches are their competitors, and in many ways, this is true. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Forming mutually beneficial relationships with other coaches can help you get new life coaching clients. You can form relationship and joint ventures with executive, career, wellness, and other coaches. You can even form relationships with other life coaches. You may have a specialty while a coaching peer has a different specialty – you can refer clients to each other and help each other expand their respective businesses. If you can think of other coaches as peers and associates instead of competitors, you can form mutually beneficial joint ventures to get new life coaching clients.
