I am not talking about the nickname for Hitler’s National Socialist Party. Instead the image I am going for is the “Soup Nazi” from Seinfeld. You remember: he’s the guy who would cut you off if you said anything he didn’t like – cut you right off, period. So when is it really good to be really, really bad?

People often Don’t Value Things until They Are Taken Away

The first time to be the “Coaching Nazi” is when your prospect won’t commit to your coaching. You’ve made your case. They agree that they can benefit from it. But they just won’t commit. Every new coach’s first inclination is to gavel and make their case again. DON’T DO IT! Slam that door. It feels so empowering. And if they don’t beg for a second chance, they would never sign up, anyway.

You Can’t Have the Big Impact if You Are Being too Nice

Sometimes coaching tips seem to contradict themselves. You need to establish rapport with your client, but you can’t make that big impact on their behavior, if you are too much in rapport. It’s just a matter of timing. Unless you first establish rapport, your client will not open up and share their inner self. But once they do, you may have to hit them hard to generate the lasting change that they need. By switching gears and coming on strong, you get their attention and get by their defenses. You also introduce the element of loss of your relationship, if they don’t adopt the change. All of this adds up to affecting them in a way that is impossible if you are being too nice.

One of the Best Coaching Tips Is to Catch Your Client off Balance

When your client settles into the routine of your coaching, you have lost your effectiveness. When your client does their email during your coaching sessions, it’s all over. That’s why one of the best coaching tips is to keep your client off balance. This will command their attention and open them up to your influence, so you can go back to being the “nice guy” at least for a little while.

To learn more about how to generate an endless wave of high paying coaching clients, get your FREE Instant Access to our “Life Coaching Business Blueprint” video toolkit when you go HERE.

Dave Iuppa
JTS Advisors Strategy and Accountability Coach

You’ve heard of the “Good Cop” and the “Bad Cop”, well among the best coaching tips is that sometimes you need to become the “Coaching Nazi”.
