After almost a decade of being a ‘crash test dummy’ for coach training techniques<\/strong><\/a> (not to mention, running my own coaches trainings), I know a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t work for training elite coaches. The best coaches aren’t prodigies, born with elite coaching skills.<\/p>\n

The Best Coaches Are Trained With High Level Coach Training Techniques<\/h3>\n

There are lots of coach trainings to choose from. Some of them are ‘niched’ for a particular type of coaching (like ‘christian coaching’ or ‘relationship coaching’), while others attempt to push the envelope of the price (a few hundred on the low end and more like $25,000 on the high end). No matter how they spin their approach, very few of them really deliver the goods in creating the best coaches in the world.<\/p>\n

Quite a few years ago, I developed several 8-week immersion trainings for my coaching team. These trainings were the answer to the question, “How do I create the best coaches in the world?”<\/p>\n

  1. Work directly with a master coach (get coached by a master coach as well as practice coaching on a master coach).<\/li>\n
  2. Learn a comprehensive set of coaching skills. Most coach training techniques<\/strong> are too narrow in scope and use, and a company that only focuses on one set of techniques won’t help you become an elite coach. The processes in learning these coaching skills should include education, practice, feedback, and ideally, an apprenticeship program from your mentors.<\/li>\n
  3. Learn how to build the business, including administrative, sales, and marketing aspects.<\/li>\n
  4. Learn how to get paying clients and keep them coming back for the long term.<\/li>\n
  5. Get real world experience in coaching, marketing, and selling your coaching. Make sure the coach training techniques<\/span> force you to learn by actually DOING IT vs. just reading about it or sitting in a classroom.<\/li>\n
  6. Get exposure to an entire network of coaches that you can learn from, mastermind with, and get coaching from. Make sure your training company provides a community of the best coaches that will always be there for you.<\/li>\n
  7. Get ongoing support for the long term. that way, you can repeat these training activities over a period of time, and then stack the next level methods and techniques on top of that foundation that you’ve built.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Unfortunately, a lot of the coach training techniques<\/strong> that training companies use don\u2019t provide personal mentoring, feedback, and the sales and marketing education you really need to make it in the coaching business. These organizations usually don’t teach you how to really produce a nice profit in the coaching industry. They also don\u2019t employ coaches and they don’t set up coaches businesses for them. They only train. Once you are trained, you are on your own.<\/p>\n
