Life coaching education is a wide subject, and it’s very important to life coaches to learn what they need to know to become a life coach. \u00a0Where do you start? \u00a0Do you go to college and get a\u00a0life coaching degree<\/a>, or do you simply take a coaching course and become\u00a0a certified life coach<\/a>? \u00a0Whichever way you go, you must\u00a0consider\u00a03 things.<\/div>\n

The 3 Things to Consider in Your Journey to Becoming a Certified Life Coach (at Least in Spirit)<\/h3>\n
1. \u00a0Your Goal:<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
Do you want to moonlight as a coach or do you want to become the ultimate coaching guru with a large coaching empire? \u00a0Do you want to make coaching a part of your consulting or\u00a0psychotherapy\u00a0practice or do you want to hire coaches to work for you as you go out and give large seminars? \u00a0If so, you may not need to become\u00a0a certified life coach<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

If you are simply adding coaching to a current professional services business, then you probably don’t need to have a life coaching degree<\/strong>, but if you are looking to build a coaching empire, then you’ll probably (eventually) want to become\u00a0a\u00a0certified\u00a0life coach<\/strong>. \u00a0You may not know exactly what your coaching goal is, and in that case your life coaching education is going to be in question as well. \u00a0My suggestion… wait to figure out your goal or coaching vision before you go out and get a\u00a0life coaching degree<\/strong> or look at a certified\u00a0life coach<\/span> future.<\/div>\n

2. \u00a0The Skills You’ll Need to Reach That Goal:<\/div>\n

You want to become\u00a0a certified life coach<\/span>?<\/h3>\n

Why? \u00a0Do you want the ‘street cred’?<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
Perhaps you really need certain skills. \u00a0See, your clients just want to hire you as a professional coach because you have the coaching skills they need in order to produce the results they want in their life or\u00a0business. \u00a0they really don’t care whether or not you have a life coaching degree<\/span>\u00a0or if you have not even become a\u00a0certified life coach\u00a0(except in so far as they believe it will impact the kind of results they get from coaching with you).<\/div>\n

So much more important than that life coaching degree<\/span>\u00a0is knowing the set of skills you need to garner in order to produce that result of having the big shiny coaching empire or just adding a few coaching clients to your professional services practice.<\/div>\n

3. \u00a0The Skills That You’ll Have to Learn in The Field<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
Certain life coaching skills simply can’t be taught (for the most part) in the process of getting a\u00a0life coaching degree\u00a0or becoming\u00a0a certified life\u00a0coach. \u00a0You’ve got to just go out and work!<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
For instance, it’s easy to coach someone in a safe coaching school environment, because it’s all just practice. \u00a0But what if that same person was paying you $1,000 per month to coach them, and they just threatened to quit? \u00a0Now how much good is that life coaching degree going to do you? \u00a0Probably not much… You’re going to have to use true EXPERIENCE and produce results out of your own willpower and composure, and being a certified life coach may not make any difference. \u00a0That’s where your life coaching education will not help you. \u00a0You are on your own!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Remember, beyond being\u00a0a certified life coach\u00a0and getting some ‘fancy pants’ life coaching degree,\u00a0your PHD needs to be in results, and only YOU can decide if your journey will be successful.<\/p>\n
