style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">she wanted to enroll<\/span>\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c&#8230;but I haven\u2019t heard back from her.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I asked\u2026 <strong><em>\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Why<\/span> do you think that happened?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sylvia (a coach I\u2019m mentoring) answered\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI don\u2019t know why.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"840\" height=\"472.5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dkGU4P3ppGE\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI really thought she loved our coaching session.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cShe said that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">she couldn\u2019t wait to get started<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI sent her an email and a text to follow up\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c&#8230;But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">it\u2019s been 2 weeks, and\u2026 nothing<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cIs this the first time <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a potential client ghosted you<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HER: <strong><em>\u201cI\u2019ve run 20 &#8211; 30 discovery sessions\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThey tell me <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">how \u2018amazing I am\u2019<\/span> during the session.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cWhenever I follow up, I can\u2019t get hold of them, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they don\u2019t return my communications<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cAfter a few weeks of this, I feel so awkward about bothering them\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026that I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">gave up enrolling them<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sylvia was feeling like she wasn\u2019t much of a coach.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How could she be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">wasn\u2019t enrolling anyone<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI think <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">everyone is lying to me<\/span> when they say I&#8217;m a good coach\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026since I&#8217;m obviously <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not good enough for them to enroll<\/span> with me.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI\u2019m starting to question <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">whether I should be a coach at all<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cMaybe I\u2019m just not cut out for this.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Needing to be liked or validated is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">approval seeking behavior<\/span>\u2026and that\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unattractive coaching<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I told Sylvia, <strong><em>\u201cNot true.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI think you just need <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a few simple changes<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cFirst, did you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">call this prospect<\/span> at any time after the coaching session?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said, <strong><em>\u201cNo, I don\u2019t want to call her\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c&#8230;because I\u2019m <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">afraid that she\u2019ll think I\u2019m pushy or desperate<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I asked, <strong><em>\u201cDid you set a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">deadline for her to enroll<\/span> in coaching?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sylvia answered, <strong><em>\u201cNo, I told her she can start anytime.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later it came out that Sylvia avoided setting a deadline for her client to enroll in coaching\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026because of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">her fear of upsetting her client<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sylvia was so afraid of looking bad to her client\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026that she wasn\u2019t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">giving her client<\/span> the very <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">support they deserved<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sylvia\u2019s first priority was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for the client to LIKE her<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026which got in the way of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">standing for her client\u2019s needs<\/span> and intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Needing to be liked or validated is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">approval seeking behavior<\/span>\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and that\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unattractive coaching<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>There are only 2 kinds of coaching:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Attractive<\/span> coaching<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Unattractive<\/span> coaching<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Attractive coaching enrolls clients<\/span> and keeps clients working with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">needy, pushy, judgemental, fearful<\/span>, etc\u2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unattractive<\/span> to potential clients.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Any coaching that\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">confident, curious, professional, or supportive<\/span>\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">attractive<\/span> to potential clients.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sylvia\u2019s fearful action was about to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">lose her yet another enrollment<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">coach attractively<\/span>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People enroll in coaching to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">become the best version of themselves<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best businessperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best athlete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best wife or husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">healthiest, richest, happiest, most successful<\/span> version of themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Attractive coaching is ANYTHING that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">fulfills on that promise<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sell out<\/span> on that, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">why should anyone enroll<\/span> into coaching with you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of ATTRACTIVE Coaching?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Telling your clients <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">things that they may not want to hear<\/span> (but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">need<\/span> to).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requiring your client to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">make their own decisions<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helping your client\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/the-2-coaching-client-blindspots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>awareness of their blind spots<\/strong><\/a> and tendencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/deep-coaching-tutorial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Going deep<\/strong><\/a> with your client into why they do what they do.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting them to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">take new actions<\/span> and limit endless discussion about \u2018how they feel\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helping them to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">make commitments and stay accountable<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Confronting your client<\/span> (in a caring way) when they are falling into <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">bad habits<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listening for what your client <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">means<\/span>, not just the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">words they use<\/span> (reading between the lines).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Making your client do their own \u201cpushups\u201d (Personal Trainers don\u2019t workout FOR us).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being \u201cpresent\u201d (in the moment) with your client.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Asking questions<\/span> instead of giving your client the answers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Following up where warranted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any coaching that\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">confident, curious, professional, or supportive<\/span>\u2026is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">attractive<\/span> to potential clients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of UNATTRACTIVE Coaching?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Saying \u201cI\u2019m sorry\u201d all the time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Talking too much<\/span> (nothing communicates anxiety more than talking too much).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client\u2019s excuses stop them without saying anything.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not answer your questions<\/span> (deflecting or changing the subject).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blame other people<\/span> for their situation (<a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/how-to-coach-your-clients-past-their-victim-mentality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>playing the victim<\/strong><\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Delivering endless free sessions<\/span> without requiring the client to pay you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting clients <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no-show or cancel sessions<\/span> without confronting them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Hiding out in email<\/span> when you should make a phone call instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Editing yourself<\/span> (not confronting a client) because you don\u2019t want to upset them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client say \u201cI already know that\u201d when they aren\u2019t taking action on it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client make you jump through hoops (like you are their waiter).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jumping to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">conclusions<\/span>, rather than finding out what\u2019s really going on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">late, unprepared, or distracted<\/span> during their coaching sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letting your client <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">dwell on the past or future<\/span> too much.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buying into your client\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">excuses<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any coaching that\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">needy, pushy, judgemental, fearful<\/span>, etc\u2026.is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unattractive<\/span> to potential clients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sylvia&#8217;s version of unattractive coaching was emailing her client when a phone call was required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026she was trying to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">avoid conflict<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026she was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">approval seeking<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, as a result\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026she was easily <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ignored<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sylvia was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">selling out<\/span> on coaching, her client, and herself\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and she didn\u2019t even know it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She asked me <strong><em>\u201cSo I&#8217;ve been using unattractive coaching?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cIf your follow up is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DRIVEN by avoiding conflict or approval seeking<\/span>\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Then you\u2019ll come across as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">needy<\/span> or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">desperate<\/span>\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026and THAT is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unattractive<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HER: <strong><em>\u201cThat explains why I haven\u2019t heard back from her.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME:<strong><em> \u201cAre you willing to deliver more attractive coaching?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HER:<strong><em> \u201cI don\u2019t know if I can. Is that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">authentic<\/span>? Do I even <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">have what it takes<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cYou already put energy into behaving attractively in many other parts of your life\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026so why wouldn\u2019t you put similar energy into being an attractive coach?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cBehaving attractively already <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">makes your life easier<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou already practice good <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hygiene<\/span>, use <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">clean clothes<\/span>, etc\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou use makeup and comb your hair.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">polite and friendly<\/span>, right?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sylvia said, <strong><em>\u201cYES. of course.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Attractive coaching enrolls clients<\/span> and keeps clients working with you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cAnd you\u2019re obviously just as committed to coaching as the rest of your life, right?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HER:<strong><em> \u201cI think I get it. Coaching is not about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">my own selfish concerns<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cTo coach attractively, I\u2019ve got to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">set my own fears aside<\/span>\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">do what\u2019s best for my client<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cYES. and, If you don\u2019t take <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">your client\u2019s enrollment decision as a personal rejection<\/span>\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026you\u2019ll display a level of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">confidence<\/span> that is VERY attractive to a client.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HER:<strong><em> \u201cOK, I\u2019m going to follow up with my client by phone today.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A short time later Sylvia reported back to me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cI called my client.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cShe apologized for not getting back in touch with me.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cShe thanked me for following up and said things had been crazy at work\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThen <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">she signed up for 6 months of coaching<\/span>!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I said <strong><em>\u201cCongratulations on your new client!
