Most veteran coaches offer a free, one-time discovery session<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so should you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that\u2019s it. No. more.<\/span> free. coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any more free coaching will cost you paying clients<\/span>\u2026 and possibly, your coaching business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you go \u201covertime\u201d on a discovery session\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The climax of the discovery session has passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They probably feel satiated<\/span> with whatever breakthroughs they got from that one session\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026and most clients aren\u2019t going to get back with you for 10 minutes, just so you can ask them to pay for more coaching<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026because they aren\u2019t pulling THEIR WEIGHT<\/span> in the coaching relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without pulling their own weight, they\u2019ll reject any accountability coaching\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026because it’s easier to escape than it is to change<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WRONG CLIENT #2: \u201cTakers\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Takers<\/span> don\u2019t honor professional boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give a little too much free coaching\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026and they\u2019ll push to see how much more<\/span> free coaching they can get from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you tell them \u201cno more free coaching\u201d…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026some will even try to guilt<\/span> you into changing your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coaches fall for this guilt trip more than you\u2019d expect\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026thinking they \u2018could\u2019ve done a better job\u2019 coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But ANY coach would struggle to help a client that\u2019s not truly invested in coaching<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takers will put a lot of faith in you<\/span>, which might feel good at first\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026but they\u2019ll expect you to rescue them<\/span> every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takers try to make you their entire emotional support system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takers suck all your time and energy<\/span>, leaving you exhausted<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takers see you as their own personal assistant, or shoulder to cry on (but not as a valued professional).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No matter how much you try to deliver for them, it\u2019s never enough<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more you give<\/span>\u2026the more they take<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takers will suck you dry and burn you out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s nothing wrong with a client taking, when it\u2019s paired with giving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healthy coaching relationships are give and take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WRONG CLIENT #3: Broke Clients<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Broke clients<\/span> don\u2019t want to pay for coaching (because they\u2019re broke).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Broke clients have nothing else to do, so they\u2019ll happily \u2018talk your ear off\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clients with money WANT to pay you, because they understand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
