When I told Jeffrey (Dean of Master Coach University<\/strong><\/a>) he said\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDon\u2019t delude yourself. You need to SPEED UP.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I knew he was right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In fact, right now I\u2019m helping Terina, whose coaching business was dying<\/span> due <\/p>\n\n\n\n to (you guessed it) lack of speed<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the last 4 months, Terina\u2019s coaching had devolved into stress<\/span> about <\/p>\n\n\n\n taking care of her father\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026and arguing<\/span> with her sister about helping with his care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She was so stressed that she landed in the hospital with an anxiety attack<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a recent session Terina told me \u201cWith all this happening, I\u2019m feeling <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n hopeless, stressed out, anxious, and exhausted!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I said, \u201cBut you\u2019ve got to go FASTER<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n She said: \u201cAre you crazy<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHow am I going to go faster when my world is so chaotic<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n ME: \u201cSpeed wins<\/span> in your coaching business.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Speed wins<\/span> in your coaching business.<\/em><\/strong>“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou\u2019ve gotten used to going at your own pace instead of at the pace of<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n success<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Terina was speechless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And if you\u2019re thinking, \u201cWhat kind of a jerk<\/span> tells an overstressed, failing <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n client whose health is on the line\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026to \u2018go faster\u2019? That\u2019s coaching malpractice.<\/span>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n And, you\u2019re RIGHT:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGo FASTER\u201d is the opposite of what most coaches would tell her<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGo FASTER\u201d is the opposite of what she wanted<\/span> to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGo FASTER\u201d is the opposite of what her intuition told her<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGo FASTER\u201d is the opposite of what seemed healthy, sane & reasonable<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You might think, \u201cYou should be supportive<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou should tell her to slow down and focus on self-care<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAffirm<\/span> her. Reassure<\/span> her.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTell her she\u2019s done MORE than enough<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTell her she\u2019s OVERWORKED and needs to take a break<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Those are all valid approaches to coaching\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026but only if your client doesn\u2019t mind their business FAILING<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I knew that her only way to take care of herself and her family was to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And I knew that she would never be satisfied with quitting<\/span>, or slowing down<\/span>, or <\/p>\n\n\n\n giving up<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She would lose her soul<\/span> if she did that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But Terina was running her business as if it didn\u2019t matter<\/span> that much to her\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026but I knew that it did<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She acted like captain of a ship, lost at sea, looking for a port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But the truth was, her ship was sinking, and she was going down with it<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n And you don\u2019t take a leisurely stroll on the deck of a sinking ship<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nTerina\u2019s coaching business was a slow motion train <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
wreck.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
