Share the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">top 3 benefits<\/span> of your discovery session.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t mistake these benefits for the benefits of ongoing coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you dazzle them with too much information about your coaching, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you\u2019ll scare them off<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do NOT tell potential clients the benefits of ongoing coaching with you YET (you can handle that later if coaching is a fit for them).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BOTTOM LINE: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Only<\/span> share the benefits of your discovery session, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NOT ongoing coaching<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BOTTOM LINE: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Only<\/span> share the benefits of your discovery session, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NOT ongoing coaching<\/span>.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are examples of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">common discovery session benefits<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ll help clarify exactly what your client wants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll help your client build a strategy to get what they want.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will identify what\u2019s holding them back from already having what they want.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They&#8217;ll learn 2 or 3 ideas they can immediately use to improve their results.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They\u2019re getting a session that your clients pay $200 for\u2026 at no charge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll deeply listen to them (without judgment) throughout the session.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They\u2019ll experience valuable insights, transformation, and breakthroughs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steal and customize any of these benefits to share in your own discovery session offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019d like some help creating attractive benefits for your discovery session, go <a href=\"https:\/\/wellpaidcoach.com\/launch-your-coaching-strategy-session\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a> and you can schedule a time where I\u2019ll help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Ask DIRECTLY <\/strong><strong><em>\u201cWould you like to have a discovery session?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A newer coach, Kayla, was sorely missing this exact tactic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She complained that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a prospective client ignored her offer<\/span>, even though she was talking to them LIVE over the phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I asked her <strong><em>\u201cHow did they ignore your discovery session offer?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kayla said <strong><em>\u201cHere\u2019s what I told her\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2018I have a free sample call, and you\u2019re welcome to book one to see what it is about.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThen I talked about how people got value in my discovery sessions.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I asked <strong><em>\u201cWhat did she say?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kayla: <strong><em>\u201cShe said \u2018That\u2019s lovely\u2019, and then <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">just changed the subject<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"3 Keys to offering a discovery session\" class=\"wp-image-27905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1-640x360.jpg 640w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-keys-to-discovery-session-setting-LOGO-1.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cThat\u2019s not quite an offer\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026and she didn\u2019t respond to you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">because you didn\u2019t ask her a question<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou showed interest\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c&#8230;but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">instead of making the offer<\/span>, you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">just kept talking<\/span> about what you do.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kayla: <strong><em>\u201cWhy is that a problem?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cLet\u2019s say a man wants to ask you out on a date.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cHe says \u2018I\u2019d like to take you out sometime\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cDid he ask you a question?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kayla: <strong><em>\u201cNo, and I could <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">probably just ignore him<\/span>!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cExactly. Saying he wants to take you out is only <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">information<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cAnd it\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a pretty \u2018ignorable\u2019 offer<\/span>\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026unless he asks you a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">direct question<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cIf he said \u2018Are you free Saturday night at 7?\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cTHAT\u2019S a direct question.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You can\u2019t ignore it<\/span>, and you\u2019ll likely give him an answer.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kayla: <strong><em>\u201cSure, but I could just say \u2018no\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ME: <strong><em>\u201cTrue. A direct question has 1 of 3 possible responses&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>\u2018Yes\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>\u2018No\u2019, or\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>They can raise questions or concerns.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThere\u2019s no way to get around it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cA direct question ALWAYS exposes you to hearing \u2018no.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cBut YES is also possible\u2026 and, most importantly\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026when you ASK DIRECTLY, they can\u2019t ignore your offer.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThe same is true when offering discovery sessions.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kayla: <strong><em>\u201cThat makes sense.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, it\u2019s ok to talk to your prospective client as much as you want\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but once it\u2019s time to offer the discovery session\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">direct<\/span> and to the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s not the time to talk a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s not the time to beat around the bush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve met coaches who wasted years \u201chinting around\u201d (or over-talking) about their discovery session\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026communicating fear and uncertainty without even realizing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BOTTOM LINE: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ask direct questions<\/span> that require <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a yes or no answer<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are examples of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">direct questions that offer a discovery session<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>\u201cWould you like to schedule a discovery session?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>\u201cHow do you feel about scheduling a discovery session?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>\u201cI have 10am or 12pm available. Which of those times works best for you?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>\u201cI have 10 time slots available on my calendar. After asking, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">be silent<\/span> for as long as it takes them to answer you.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your direct question signals to your client that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">it\u2019s THEIR turn to speak<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s THEIR turn to decide on getting that discovery session or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">THEIR decision<\/span> to take new actions to create a better life, business, body, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your silence gives the client as much time as they need\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026for them to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">consider your offer<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">answer your question<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond that&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WHY is your SILENCE <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">so important<\/span>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">silence shows confidence<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your silence gives that client certainty that it\u2019s smart to get a discovery session with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, especially upon making the offer, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unnecessary talking makes you look anxious<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I used to be guilty of talking too much myself.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talking too much got in the way of my own discovery sessions\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026both when I should\u2019ve been making a direct offer\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026as well as when the client should\u2019ve had space to reply to my offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">solution<\/span>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I\u2019d ask my client a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">pre-scripted, direct question<\/span> (to offer the discovery session)&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026then, I bit down on a towel, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">so I couldn\u2019t talk<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you talk too much about what you\u2019re offering (without asking an offer question)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026you project a lack of confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why was I talking too much?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fear or anxiety creates an obstacle<\/span> that your client has to \u2018get around\u2019 before they schedule that discovery session with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Imagine someone making an offer, but they never shut up!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wouldn\u2019t you start to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">doubt<\/span> the offer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wouldn\u2019t you pass a little bit of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">judgment<\/span>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THEIR FEAR turned into YOUR BARRIER to taking the offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THAT\u2019S how it happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unnecessary talking can <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">cause a potential client to hold back<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026even if they were already going to agree to a discovery session!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you WILL feel a lack of confidence when offering a discovery session\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NEVER force your client to look past your fearfulness<\/span> in order to see the value that you offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you WILL feel a lack of confidence when offering a discovery session\u2026<strong>but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NEVER force your client to look past your fearfulness<\/span> in order to see the value that you offer.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p
