{"id":27800,"date":"2022-07-12T15:10:51","date_gmt":"2022-07-12T23:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/?p=27800"},"modified":"2025-04-26T15:51:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-26T23:51:56","slug":"coaching-client-getting-chain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/coaching-client-getting-chain\/","title":{"rendered":"The Coaching Client Getting Chain"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I almost LOST my coaching business, but a simple fix saved it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I started coaching, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/how-to-survive-a-coaching-business-weakness\/\">public speaking<\/a><\/strong> was my \u2018go to\u2019 coaching business strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public speaking was so powerful for me, that it helped me <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">grow a full coaching practice in under 2 years<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I wanted more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"840\" height=\"472.5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/szOGMHrY1hY\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wanted to \u2018scale up\u2019 even bigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">way<\/span> I tried to scale up\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026almost <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">destroyed my coaching business<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luckily, a simple solution saved me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me explain\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>My speaking system worked this way:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I gave <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">speeches<\/span> to sales teams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the speech, I\u2019d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">offer discovery sessions<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">enrolled coaching clients<\/span> from those discovery sessions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This \u201cheartbeat system\u201d filled my practice with paying coaching clients like a charm\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but it was a lot of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">work<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and my <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">enrollments were limited<\/span> to people I could <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">speak in front of<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">on the road speaking<\/span> nearly EVERY day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I wasn\u2019t speaking, I was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">on the phone scheduling<\/span> more speeches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I enjoyed it\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but, I was getting pretty <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">burnt out<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If I wanted even MORE clients, I had to add <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">new growth strategies<\/span>.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I thought that if I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">built a cool website<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026More clients would find me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Great idea right? (it is!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I threw myself into building my website\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stopped speaking<\/span> almost overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Now <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ZERO clients were coming<\/span> from speaking\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026and my fancy website had yet to render any coaching clients either.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I didn\u2019t get discouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I stuck to the plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But my full coaching practice <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">slowly dwindled to just a few clients<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then I remember the day I felt like the rug was pulled out from under me\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two clients quit <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">on the same day<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I looked at my \u2018active clients\u2019 list to remove them\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and I realized my coaching business was almost dead.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27807\" style=\"width:377px;height:213px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic-640x360.jpg 640w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/panic.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I had only <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2 active clients<\/span> remaining.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the next few hours, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">panic set in<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I obsessed over how I would survive <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">my upcoming financial demise<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Was I going to have to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">start all over again<\/span>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would take months of hard work just to get back to a full coaching practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what would happen to my new website?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between sobs, I pondered <strong><em>\u201cIs this really <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">worth continuing<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next day, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I called MY coach<\/span>, asking him <strong><em>\u201cShould I just go get a JOB?\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and he told me THIS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou\u2019ve come so far. You\u2019ve <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">already <\/span>had a successful coaching business\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cWhy would you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">throw it all away by going back to a JOB<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I told him, <strong><em>\u201cI thought I was on my way to a coaching empire\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026but instead my coaching business is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">crashing down around me<\/span>!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cMaybe this is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">my cue to get out<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My coach told me, <strong><em>\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You\u2019re not done<\/span> with this journey.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">more work<\/span> to do.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYou <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stopped doing what was working<\/span> in order to do something new.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cIf you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">go back to what works<\/span>, you can <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">resurrect your coaching business<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">gave me an epiphany<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wasn\u2019t REALLY starting all over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I still had a few paying clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JkLFDEm7vlE\">I still <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">knew how to GET clients<\/span>.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So I pulled myself together and got back to work.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I scheduled <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">speeches<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I set <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">discovery sessions<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, client by client\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">rebuilt my coaching practice<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Now (A decade later) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I&#8217;ve coached 408 clients<\/span> (and counting).<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And all it really took was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">getting back to what worked<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have you ever felt like you\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">taking one step forward<\/span> in your coaching underline;\">Works<\/span>.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, more importantly\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Don\u2019t stop<\/span> doing what works.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And there\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">one universal system that works<\/span> to grow your coaching business:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Client-Getting \u201cChain\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">getting clients requires a series of events<\/span> (or activities) to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">work together in harmony<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026like a chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you pull on a chain\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026EACH link has to be strong enough to keep the entire chain together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If only <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">one link of the chain breaks<\/span>, then the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">chain won\u2019t work<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In your coaching business, the client-getting chain is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">composed of at least 3 links<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A system for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">getting leads<\/span> (potential clients)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A system for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">scheduling discovery sessions<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A system for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">enrolling new clients<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To learn more about these to getting paying coaching clients for your business\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">as your heart, lungs, and brain are to your body<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">heart<\/span> stops working\u2026 you\u2019re dead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">lungs<\/span> stop working\u2026 you\u2019re dead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">brain<\/span> stops working\u2026 you\u2019re (brain) dead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only one<\/span> of those organs <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stops working<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026you\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">dead<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">never stop breathing<\/span> just because you want to improve your heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That would be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">suicide<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ve got to improve your heart while you maintain your lungs and brain SIMULTANEOUSLY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn\u2019t matter how strong the other two organs are if the other organ fails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Don\u2019t stop<\/span> doing what works.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How does this apply to your coaching business?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Those 3 links<\/span> in the client-getting \u201cchain\u201d\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2026are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">like the \u2018vital organs<\/span>\u2019 in your coaching business.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ALL of them are needed to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">keep your business alive<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they\u2019re ALWAYS needed<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you&#8217;re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">missing EVEN ONE<\/span> of those 3 links\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026you won\u2019t be able to get enough coaching clients\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">your business will die<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026just like your body dies when a vital organ fails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">That\u2019s<\/span> what almost happened to my coaching business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I was lucky enough to learn THIS hard lesson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Never completely ignore any \u201cvital organ<\/span>\u201d in your coaching business.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">if you do, then your coaching business \u201cdies\u201d<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cWhat a second, Kris\u2026 are you saying that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I can\u2019t try other ways to get clients<\/span> in my business?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can (and probably
