Blindly Follow Coaches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other day, a coach asked me if their \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/do-your-coaching-goals-sound-impossible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>big coaching business idea<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 was worth doing\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c&#8230;all the experts say it will fail,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> they told me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I said <strong><em>\u201cDon\u2019t listen to them.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cYour idea sounds great\u2026 go for it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They said <strong><em>\u201cGreat!\u2026I was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">going to try it anyway<\/span>, but now I feel better about it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I laughed, <strong><em>\u201cThen why did you ask me??\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coach said <strong><em>\u201cBecause <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I wanted to make sure<\/span> it was ok.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I realized\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026they were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">asking for my permission<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026to do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">what they already knew was right<\/span> for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too many coaches get derailed by\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Waiting for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">permission<\/span>.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Blindly following<\/span> the \u2018righteous advice\u2019 from gurus.<\/li><li>Getting <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">discouraged<\/span> when their guru says \u201cbad idea\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It\u2019s YOUR Coaching business and YOU get to make the decisions.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isn\u2019t that partly why you started your coaching business?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026so you wouldn\u2019t have a BOSS telling you what to do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So why would you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blindly let some GURU tell you what to do<\/span>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/blind-1.jpg\"><img 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They can\u2019t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">know everything about you<\/span> and your coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YOU know you (and your coaching) best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WILL pay a price<\/span> if your coaching business idea doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not the guru\u2019s problem<\/span> if you\u2019re wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do you decide whether to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blaze your own coaching path<\/span>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Or\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">listen to the GURUS<\/span>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some things to consider when you\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not sure if your \u2018big coaching business idea\u2019 will work<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Test it.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no rules<\/span> in the coaching business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nobody knows for sure<\/span> if your business idea will get paying clients or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the \u201cexperts\u201d are only making <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">educated guesses<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/ab-test.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideally you want to <a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/the-odd-fact-about-doubts-in-your-coaching-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>test your idea<\/strong><\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>with as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">little financial risk<\/span> as possible.<\/li><li>as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">quickly<\/span> as possible.<\/li><li>on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">smallest scale<\/span> possible.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the coaching you\u2019ll provide<\/span> within your big idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Offer that coaching<\/span> to a few people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask them to tell others about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If anyone <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">raves about your coaching<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If anyone is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">willing to share your coaching<\/span> with others\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026then you might have a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">winner<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But don\u2019t expect raving fans overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Give yourself time<\/span> to find out if you have a winner.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, you could keep track of your enrollments for 6 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After 6 months, if you got the enrollments you needed, then congratulations!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you don\u2019t, then consider\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026if you only need to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">make adjustments to make your idea work<\/span>, or\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026if your idea is doomed to fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>There are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no rules<\/span> in the coaching business.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What&#8217;s the worst-case scenario if your big coaching idea doesn\u2019t work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can you afford to be wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you have a \u2018day job\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you have 6-12 months of your expenses saved?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If not\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What happens if you\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">wrong<\/span>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may have to go back to your job, possibly for YEARS\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026before you can afford to try your coaching idea again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that\u2019s what you\u2019re risking, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">it might be better to follow the GURU\u2019s advice<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That way, IF they are right about your \u2018big coaching business idea\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you\u2019ll have paying clients<\/span>, and can take care of your family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have nothing to lose by waiting to try your idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">coaching business idea will still be there<\/span> once you\u2019re ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No matter what direction you idea\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Talk to potential clients.<\/li><li>Follow your passion.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">so what<\/span> if it might not work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what if you don\u2019t have the perfect business plan?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what if you don\u2019t have perfect coaching chops?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t give your \u2018big coaching business idea\u2019 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a chance<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you always gonna <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">wonder<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cCould my idea have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">worked<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ignoring the experts<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Test your coaching idea<\/span> to see if it flies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you hate the \u2018guru\u2019s alternative\u2019 to your big idea\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026then you\u2019re not going to follow their advice anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your coaching business is better off <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">when you\u2019re DOING SOMETHING<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026talking to hundreds of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if your idea is bad\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">say all the \u201cwrong things\u201d<\/span>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if it\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not working<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do it, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">learn from it<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Do it, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">learn from it<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You can enjoy your passion AND a profitable coaching business\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but you may not get BOTH <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">from the same source<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might build a profitable coaching business that doesn\u2019t \u2018light you up\u2019&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026but it brings in the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">money can free up enough time<\/span> to enjoy your passion\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026even if that passion never makes a cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t HAVE to make money from your big coaching idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can still have it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can your guru still help you even if they are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">wrong<\/span>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Don&#8217;t fire your guru<\/span> ONLY because they didn\u2019t like your big coaching idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Firing them could deprive you of some great advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They could <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">still help you make your big coaching idea work<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026even if they disagree with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kennedy said <strong><em>\u201cWe choose to go to the moon\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and engineers at NASA said that going to the moon was impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then (rumor has it) Kennedy <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hired all those engineers DESPITE their disagreement<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why did he do that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because he wanted people working on the problem WHO UNDERSTOOD THE PROBLEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He wanted OTHER POINTS OF VIEW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">aren\u2019t going to agree<\/span> with ALL of the advice of ANY GURU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use their <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">best advice<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cDon\u2019t ever let GURUS tell you\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You can\u2019t do something\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you remember the movie \u201cThe Pursuit of Happiness?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a scene where Will Smith\u2019s character is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UZb2NOHPA2A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>playing basketball with his
