My coaching goals used to hold me back from success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too perfect?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was living the coaching dream (inside my own mind)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…instead of living it in reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had created a Perfectionistic Goal<\/span>: <\/strong>a goal that relies on circumstances to be perfect in order to achieve the goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What kind of goal should you set instead?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set Inconceivable Goals<\/span>:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Inconceivable goals<\/span> rely on you growing beyond your own expectations of failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An \u2018Inconceivable\u2019 goal is a big, hairy, audacious goal…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…a goal that makes you wonder how you will ever achieve it<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You actually expect to fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Laughing\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

With an Inconceivable goal you write down all the reasons why it\u2019s impossible<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…and those reasons become the impetus for your action steps<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

REASON IT’S IMPOSSIBLE:<\/strong> You can\u2019t get a paying coaching client because you can\u2019t sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

becomes…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACTION STEP:<\/strong> Learn to enroll clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every time you find a reason why you can\u2019t succeed, you decide to learn something\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…which improves your beliefs<\/span> about what\u2019s possible…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…which inevitably gets you closer to the finish line<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inconceivable goals thrive on failure as the mechanism for your growth<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…and ultimately, your achievement of what you once thought impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perfectionistic goals crumble at the slightest hint of failure.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Perfectionistic goals assume that life will be perfect at some point in the future<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…because perfection only exists in an imaginary future.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…you tell yourself you\u2019ll succeed when the kids start going to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, when the kids are in school\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…you decide that success is only possible when the kids go away to college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

See how the goal escapes your grasp?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Always one step ahead of you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You think that you\u2019ll start your coaching business when you get your certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, once you\u2019re certified, you decide to wait until you get your ADVANCED certification!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always chasing rainbows!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The perfect time is always one step in the future<\/span> from where you currently are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My first coaching client got a great deal.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My first client forced me to appreciate the difference between Perfectionistic Goals and Inconceivable Goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She got 4 coaching sessions (1 hour each) for $50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOT $50 per SESSION.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$50 for the entire program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her sessions usually ran longer than an hour\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does my achievement sound like a win?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It certainly wasn\u2019t my \u2018perfect\u2019 goal<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I made a giant leap towards achieving my Inconceivable Goal<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was going to be impossible to make good money as a coach…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…if I remained a coach who makes NO money at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting that first client transformed me\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

…into the kind of coach who could achieve my inconceivable goal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I took the family out to dinner and celebrated!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(which also cost more than $50.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this goal wasn\u2019t about making enough money to go on a dream vacation\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…it was about making the impossible POSSIBLE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next month I signed a new client for $595 \/ month for 6 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A friend of mine enrolled her first client about the same time.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Same deal\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 sessions for $50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She decided it was way too little money to live on\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…because she had her heart set on a Perfectionistic Goal<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…to make a full time living as a coach FROM DAY ONE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her mind, she failed to achieve her goal (i.e. perfection)…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…so she gave up on her dream to become a coach<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a tragedy\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…because she was a really good coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
