Your Coaching Clients\u2019 Issues Are Your Own"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wasn\u2019t going to finish this email to you\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was in the middle of writing it\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;when suddenly I thought\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8220;This email sucks.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201dIt\u2019s just not compelling enough.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I couldn\u2019t get past my issues about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What\u2019s ironic?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The whole point of this email is\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wherever coaches have a problem&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It stops them from helping their clients.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luckily, I talked to my coach about this\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;and he noticed the irony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HE SAID: <strong><em>\u201cYou\u2019re not going to help our students get unstuck\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">because YOU are stuck<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>And, coaches <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">aren\u2019t helping their own clients <\/span>get unstuck\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">because THEY are stuck<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we talked, we both realized\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8230;coaches can get stuck <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in exactly the same way that their clients are<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" 640w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/3.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s no wonder they aren\u2019t able to help their clients much (at least with that issue).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the same with my client&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026a coach who doesn\u2019t believe she has enough time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When her clients tell her they don\u2019t have enough time\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;she BELIEVES them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How could she not?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is nodding her head with the rest of the choir\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;agreeing in her heart that &#8220;everyone is busy&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I called her on it the other day\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I ASKED HER: <strong><em>\u201cWhat has you let your client stay stuck in their time limitations?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MY CLIENT SAID: <strong><em>\u201cI can\u2019t help but empathize with them.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I SAID: <strong><em>\u201cWhat you call \u2018empathy\u2019 seems to stop you from being a stand for your client to transform\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;it gets you off the hook.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MY CLIENT SAID: <strong><em>\u201cDo you think my empathy is bad?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I REASSURED HER: <strong><em>\u201cYour empathy is not the problem&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;but it\u2019s a symptom of the fact that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you share your clients limitations<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>And so instead of helping them resolve it\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;you end up <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">commiserating and connecting with them<\/span> on that problem\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>how bad it is.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>how intractable it is.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>how impossible it is to change it.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>And now you\u2019ve validated that your client can\u2019t change.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>And that\u2019s driven by an issue that you can totally transform\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;but you haven\u2019t until now.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Until you handle this for yourself&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Or at least get it out of your \u2018space\u2019 during coaching sessions\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>You\u2019re thoroughly incapable of helping this client\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8230;at least when it comes to their \u2018time\u2019 issues.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a 640w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/4.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Then I took my client through <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the three steps to overcome shared limitations in a coaching relationship<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Connect with your purpose as a coach:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most coaches <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">will do way more for others than they will just to help themselves<\/span>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;so this purpose may be the key to making real progress in this area of your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bonus is that you\u2019ll empower your client as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re not fully committed to helping your client&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;you\u2019ll likely take the easy way out and not do the hard work to get past this limitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Get clear on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">how your client\u2019s issue is similar to your own<\/span>:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask, <strong><em>\u201cHow does their issue <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">apply to me<\/span>?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask, <strong><em>\u201cHow do I have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">that same limitation<\/span> in my life?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have an answer to these questions, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">then you have seen your own limitatio<\/span>n. What can you do to transform it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t have an answer to these questions, then you haven\u2019t seen your limitation. This is an area to get coaching on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">still struggling with this issue<\/span> yourself, or are held back in your endevour to support your client in this area\u2026 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bring it up with your client<\/span>:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why bring it up? Look for the following signs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You\u2019re thinking <strong><em>\u201cI don\u2019t know how to help them.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>You\u2019re frustrated with your client\u2019s lack of progress.<\/li><li>You\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">agreeing with their problems<\/span> and \u201creasons why not\u201d.<\/li><li>You\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not showing up committed<\/span> to your client being unstoppable.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you see any of this, it\u2019s probably time to check in. Go through the steps above and see what comes up for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The areas where you can\u2019t help your client\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8230;are areas where you ARE your client.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>The areas where you can\u2019t help your client\u2026<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>&#8230;are areas where you ARE your client.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The clients you attract\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;are a reflection of your own limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When your clients are stuck\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;it\u2019s a reflection of your own limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stress you feel about your client\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;is a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">reflection of your own blindspot<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don\u2019t confuse the symptom with the cause.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your client being stuck <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is a symptom<\/span>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8230;YOU\u2019RE the cause.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(At least <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">as long as you\u2019re the coach<\/span> in that coaching relationship)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Whenever you are struggling to coach your clients through something\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8230;ask yourself how it applies to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you see how it applies&#8230; Great!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you don\u2019t see how it applies<\/span>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">that\u2019s when it applies the MOST<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a blindspot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Blindspots always have the biggest impact&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;and cause the biggest limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SEE your blindspots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TRANSCEND the suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TRANSFORM lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Colette &#8220;Causing The Coaching&#8221;
