…and only a tiny bit of what you actually wanted<\/span>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Me too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A one-size-fits-all approach never sat well with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why do so many coaches look for cookie cutter methods?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why do they want one approach to work with every client<\/span>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n You need to customize your approach to each client.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Every client is unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Every client is unique.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Start customizing your coaching approach before a client starts coaching<\/span>…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …in the Discovery Session<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019ll impact how you connect with your client\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …which will affect your ability to enroll them into coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Every client has their own way of doing things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Are they fast-paced or slower-paced?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Notice the speed of their voice<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Clients who are fast-paced make decisions quickly. Clients who are slower-paced need more time to make decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Is the client connection-oriented or object-oriented?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n People who are connection-oriented are more likely to make a decision because it \u2018feels right\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n People who are more object-oriented may have a lot of questions. With object-oriented clients, make sure they feel safe asking questions and address all of their concerns<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Every client will care about different things<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s up to you to discover what motivates them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Make sure your coaching connects with what matters most to your potential client.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Your client has a unique process for making decisions. I call this their Decision Making Blueprint<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How has your potential client made decisions in the past?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n …in a way that\u2019s so clear\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …that everything fits like a glove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then you\u2019ll develop trust…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …enroll them into your coaching program…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …and transform their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For example…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …but you can\u2019t coach them based on those surface responses<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You must understand your client as well (or better) than they understand themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Make sure your coaching connects with what matters most to your potential client.<\/strong>“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Here are two real life clients of mine, BOTH of whom told me,<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI Have to talk to my wife before enrolling into coaching with you.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n CLIENT #1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At the end of one of my first discovery sessions, this (potential) client told me that he had to talk to his wife\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …even though he had been running a successful business for years<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So I called CLIENT #1 on his bluff\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat is your wife going to say if you tell her that you are hiring a business coach?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Is she going to say you can\u2019t?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n He was silent for a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then, CLIENT #1 signed up for a year of coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Later he told me\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n “If you hadn\u2019t called me out\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n …I would have assumed you were a newbie coach\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n and would have never worked with you<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n CLIENT #2:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n During the discovery session with CLIENT #2\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …that same challenging tone would have repelled him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When CLIENT #2 told me he wanted to discuss coaching with his wife…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …I set up a 3-way call with her<\/span>…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …and when she said, \u201cI\u2019m all in for that!\u201d<\/em><\/strong>…<\/p>\n\n\n\n CLIENT #2 told me that he still had to think about things<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n I could tell by his style that time to think and process was critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So I gave him the time and support he needed\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …and eventually, CLIENT #2 enrolled into coaching with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What was the difference between CLIENT #1 and CLIENT #2?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Everything\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n …even though they said the EXACT SAME THING TO ME.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s why you need to understand your client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When this custom approach works well\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …you demonstrate to your client that you not only understand them\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n ..but accept them unconditionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That kind of trusting relationship is priceless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even if you go out on a limb<\/span> with your client\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even if you make a mistake<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …you can recover if you\u2019re flexible enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What does that flexibility look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If CLIENT #1 had told me, \u201cYes, my wife might say \u2018No\u2019 to coaching…\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n …I could have recovered by re-connecting\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n …and then continuing to ask questions with curiosity…<\/p>\n\n\n\n …until I understood what his real concerns were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n (NOTE: If you\u2019ve been waiting to start your coaching business, or were wondering if you can do it profitably, then you need to watch this video<\/a><\/strong>.
