If you want to skip forward to any of these topics, you can click on the (above) time codes to skip to that part of <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hv8FVon7JsA\" target=\"_blank\">the video<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stages of Starting Your Coaching Business&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=95s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1:35<\/a><\/strong> Over the 15 years I\u2019ve been working with new coaches, I\u2019ve found that people typically start their coaching business over the course of three stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hv8FVon7JsA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EARLY STAGE<\/a><\/strong> (this is when you\u2019re imagining, researching, and considering becoming a coach)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/how-to-start-a-coaching-business-16-mistakes-new-coaches-make-part-two\/\">MID STAGE<\/a><\/strong> (this is when you\u2019re learning coaching, getting certifications, and going through coach schooling)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LATE STAGE (this is when you\u2019re starting to actually practice coaching, and working to launch your coaching business)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each of these three stages have their own common, but deadly mistakes\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026the kind of mistakes that can kill your chances of starting your coaching business.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2:05 Although typically people don\u2019t even start their coaching business until late stage (after they\u2019ve been certified)&#8230; this is not what I recommend.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should start your coaching business (or, at least start practicing coaching regularly) by the time you\u2019re in MID STAGE (when you\u2019re learning coaching and getting certifications).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, if you\u2019re learning coaching as a student of <a href=\"https:\/\/mastercoachuniversity.com\/\"><strong>Master Coach University<\/strong><\/a>, you\u2019ll be coaching during any and all of our <a href=\"https:\/\/mastercoachuniversity.com\/certificates\/\"><strong>certification programs<\/strong><\/a>.&nbsp; Considering Becoming a Coach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, let\u2019s talk about the earliest stage that every new coach goes through as they start their coaching career.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=155s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2:35<\/a><\/strong> In this early stage of starting your coaching business, when you\u2019re&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Researching about becoming a coach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imagining what it would be life to be a coach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Considering whether or not you should become a coach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;there\u2019s one \u2018big picture\u2019 problem you\u2019ll likely encounter&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I call this problem \u201cgetting ready to get ready\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In layman\u2019s terms, the problem is <em>not taking enough action<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll notice that, for the most part, these four problems are deeply associated with (or contribute to) this bigger picture problem\u2026 \u2018lack of action\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EARLY STAGE MISTAKE #1: You Have to be Great Before You Can Be a Great Coach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=155s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2:50<\/a><\/strong> A lot of times, the first conversation I have with someone interested in becoming a coach is helping them answer this question:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Would I be a good life coach?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot of times a candidate to become a new coach will say this me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have to be better in order to be a coach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy flaws disqualify me from being a coach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My flaws disqualify me from being a coach.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mistake here?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re obsessing over these kinds of questions, you\u2019re making your potential as a coach about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stop making it about you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a few more versions of the same mistake:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019m not good enough<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m not rich enough<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m not smart or skilled enough<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m not experienced enough<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3:15&nbsp; I\u2019m Not Rich Enough<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s talk about \u201cI\u2019m not rich enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to whom?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How rich is rich \u201cenough\u201d?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you worried about people judging your economic standing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why would your clients even need to know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truth is, few if any clients will ever ask how much you make, it\u2019s considered rude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3:25&nbsp; I\u2019m Not Experienced Enough<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s talk about \u201cI\u2019m not experienced (or accomplished) enough\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This mistake also includes&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m not knowledgeable enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t have enough expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like to call this category of mistakes the \u201cresults first\u201d lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This idea of needing to have substantial accomplishments under your belt before you start coaching others is just not true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t need to accomplish ANYTHING to coach ANYONE.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy.jpg\" alt=\"You don't need to accomplish anything to coach anyone.\" class=\"wp-image-25507\" style=\"width:277px;height:277px\" title=\"how to start a coaching business\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy.jpg 800w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-copy-640x640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because if you know how to coach, then the coaching itself will add plenty of value to any client.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most people won\u2019t know (or even be that interested in) how successful you are, so don\u2019t worry about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3:50&nbsp; The Expertise Lie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like to call this one the \u201cexpertise\u201d lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The expertise lie states that the <strong>best way to get started as a life coach<\/strong> is to be an expert and give advice.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Coaching is giving advice, so if you\u2019re not an expert in an area you can\u2019t coach people because they won\u2019t listen.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People assume\u2026 \u201cCoaching is giving advice, so if you\u2019re not an expert in an area you can\u2019t coach people because they won\u2019t listen.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or people sometimes have this fear\u2026 \u201cI don\u2019t want to mislead anyone to think I\u2019m an expert, because I\u2019m not.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In reality, this is not an issue for most coaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4:35&nbsp; You may not even need to discuss those advanced ideas in depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5:05&nbsp; BOTTOM LINE?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coaching is not about giving advice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coaching is a process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our role is to help clients to TAKE ACTION, not necessarily to train them or \u2018tell them all the answers\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your client may be very successful in an area but we all have blind spots.&nbsp; The process of coaching helps your client discover these blind spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even experts may find it quite difficult to help someone else to change without learning and using <strong>coaching skills<\/strong>.&nbsp; For example, the best players in sports rarely become one of the best coaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5:30&nbsp; What if your whole coaching model revolves around giving advice and helping your clients with high level expertise (beyond the coaching you\u2019ll give them)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In that case, you may need to pursue becoming a subject matter expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019d be surprised about how little time this takes.&nbsp; Just follow these simple steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learn about the subject 1 hour a day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>take action on what you learn daily.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay at least 1 step ahead of your client.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5:40&nbsp; I\u2019m Not Skilled Enough<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s talk about the terrible \u201cI\u2019m not skilled enough\u201d complaint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re not born knowing how to do anything and coaching is no different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If this is a concern for you, then get a mentor.&nbsp; Follow their teachings and develop your coaching skills.&nbsp; If you want to become smarter or more skilled, you need commitment to drive your improvements.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truth is\u2026 you can always be \u2018more skilled\u2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s unlikely you\u2019ll ever reach your own skill limits unless you work your entire life to improve them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But even if you did reach your own limitations of skills and intellect, the sheer determination required to reach those limits would make you quite valuable to almost any client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comparing Yourself to Others<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=307s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5:07<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Most of these \u2018I\u2019m not _____ enough\u2019 fears are very much based in comparing yourself to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This \u2018comparison practice\u2019 is quite debilitating, even when you do it for business insights (through keeping an eye on the competition).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comparing Yourself to Your Competitors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The competition isn\u2019t paying attention to you because they are too busy succeeding to concern themselves with what you\u2019re doing, so don\u2019t waste too much time paying too much attention to them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me give you a little illustration to demonstrate what I mean\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">6:15&nbsp; Copyright: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.123rf.com\/profile_lightpoet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lightpoet \/ 123RF<\/a><\/sub><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The competitor is turning his head to look at Michael Phelps as they are both reaching toward the finish line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s what the competition is\u2026 Micheal Phelps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Micheal Phelps is just focusing on the finish line.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coaches with this obsessive need to compare themselves to everyone else? In this case, they\u2019re signified by that competing swimmer, paying too much attention to Phelps winning, and thus distracting themselves from their most important focus&#8230; winning the game themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So don\u2019t make it a constant practice to oogle the competition too regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">6:45&nbsp; When you do notice the competition, look at them as if you\u2019re one of their potential clients who is considering hiring them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are there any weaknesses that you can take advantage of?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are there any strengths that your competitor has that you might want to adopt or position yourself against?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can win business from a competitor either way because you bring something to the coaching relationship that they don\u2019t.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">7:00&nbsp; For instance, when I was first teaching sales to organizations, I would contact a new prospective client and ask them if they\u2019d be interested in me going in and doing a training for them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, sometimes they\u2019d tell me \u201cWe just had an international trainer come and train us last week\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We just had an international trainer come and train us last week\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sounds like I\u2019m about to be shut down, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wrong!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019d share this with them, and still win the business\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019d explain to them how working with me was a great advantage compared to working with a super successful international trainer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What was the advantage of working with me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, that super-trainer could only come in one time per year.&nbsp; These organizations needed more regular training intervals compared to that.&nbsp; I was local, so I could come in any time they needed someone to run a training session for their people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, when that super-trainer did have time to show up, all they\u2019d do is sell seminar tickets.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love seminars, but seminars are generally limited in terms of how much value they can bring to a sales organization.&nbsp; When I came in, I could give them that personal attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Third, that super-trainer was EXPENSIVE.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/kris5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"295\" height=\"274\" src=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/kris5.png\" alt=\"Kristoffer Thompson speaking to an audience\" class=\"wp-image-25513\" title=\"how to start a coaching business\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><sub>Kristoffer Thompson speaking to an audience&#8230;<\/sub><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was successful enough to get results with my clients, but my fees weren\u2019t anywhere near as expensive as that super-trainer, so my potential client could still easily afford me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See why I was still preferable to hire over that super successful trainer?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Little old me &#8211; beating a big-time trainer for local coaching business!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bottom line?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes that\u2019s the case with the competition.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe the client you\u2019re talking to can\u2019t afford your hot-shot competitor, but they can afford to work with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe you can bring a different angle of value to your client in comparison to your competition.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In those kinds of situations, you\u2019re the best coach for that particular client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8:00&nbsp; You need to understand what your \u2018unique selling proposition\u2019 is and how you can be of more benefit to the marketplace than the competition Is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Figure out your \u2018USP\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accentuate it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, finally, use it\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026and you can win business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll always lose business to the competition and you\u2019ll always win business from the competition, as long as you actively compete in that marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>8:20&nbsp; Comparing Yourself to Your Client<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another \u2018bad idea\u2019 comparison would be when you compare yourself with your client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some new coaches will say \u201cI have to be better than my client in order to coach them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not true.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael Jordan\u2019s coach wasn\u2019t a better basketball player than him.&nbsp; He DID help Jordan improve his game because <em>he was a great coach<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Players can\u2019t think of everything while they are playing the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, some new coaches may feel they don\u2019t qualify to coach a business owner, especially if that coach hasn\u2019t yet run a successful business themselves, but\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You qualify to coach business people because you had to understand and execute your own business process enough to start the coaching process with that client in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if your business isn\u2019t yet \u2018successful\u2019, by the time you\u2019re coaching a businessperson, you\u2019re likely already somewhat \u2018ahead\u2019 of them, just by virtue of the fact that you\u2019ve made progress and strides in your own business&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can help that client to do the same for themselves, whatever their version of that progress is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It\u2019s not your job to be better at your client\u2019s business than they are.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<cite>Kristoffer Thompson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not your job to be better at your client\u2019s business than they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s your job to be good at your own business\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;so you can support your client in transforming\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;so your client can become better in their own business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">9:15&nbsp; This is the same when it comes to intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t need to be smarter than your clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smart clients don\u2019t need coaches who are smarter than them, but almost every smart client can still benefit from great coaching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smarter people can tend to overcomplicate things and they may need help from you to focus on what really matters to get the result they want\u2026&nbsp; Simplifying, perhaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A really smart client might overthink things, getting caught up in \u2018analysis paralysis\u2019, and then they sorely need your accountability coaching, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">9:30&nbsp; Never compare yourself to others!&nbsp; You\u2019ll always either think too highly of yourself or too badly of yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Insecurities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=580s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">9:40<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Here\u2019s a great example of how insecurities can get the best of us\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy biggest mistake, [I] stopped doing youtube videos five years ago. With the wrongful belief that I was not good enough. Now, I see some old colleague who never stopped. They start to think they\u2019re a bad coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, then that coach starts to AVOID coaching.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whoops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See why this \u2018I\u2019m a bad coach\u2019 mindset is dangerous?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, to be fair, coaching as a service does come with it\u2019s own batch of problems, especially when the coach is brand new to coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 Sources of Coaching Problems:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are 3 simple ways you might categorize the \u2018source\u2019 of the problems that emerge within a coaching relationship&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PROBLEM SOURCE #1: It\u2019s the CLIENT\u2019s Fault\u2026 The Coach Was PERFECT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s talk about who\u2019s responsible for the results in the coaching process&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=630s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10:30<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Every client has a responsibility to cause their own success.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, not every client is willing to change in order to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why might one client get great results while another client (even when <em>working with the same coach<\/em>) does not get the same results?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simple\u2026 Because <em>the client<\/em> didn\u2019t follow through.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this case, the coach was perfect\u2026 they provided amazing and valuable coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t want to blame yourself as the coach if you didn\u2019t do anything wrong!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">10:50&nbsp; It ain\u2019t necessarily so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truth is, the best coaching may cause a client to feel uncomfortable at times.&nbsp; A client\u2019s discomfort may actually be a sign of good coaching!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PROBLEM SOURCE #2: It\u2019s the COACH\u2019s Fault\u2026 The Client Was PERFECT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">11:28&nbsp; What if you didn\u2019t do a good job in your coaching responsibility?&nbsp; Let\u2019s say that you really KNOW that you screwed up with your client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s going to happen\u2026 more than once.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can\u2019t avoid mistakes if you\u2019re going to coach people.&nbsp; Just make sure you learn from your mistakes.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My mentor, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drmoine.com\/\">Dr. Donald Moine<\/a><\/strong> once told me \u201cYou\u2019re either earning or you\u2019re learning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You\u2019re either earning or you\u2019re learning.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>Dr. Donald Moine<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This meant that you\u2019re either succeeding, or you\u2019re learning how to succeed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s all failures and mistakes are\u2026 lessons on how you\u2019ll need to change in order to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, when you make a big mistake with your coaching, don\u2019t quit coaching!&nbsp; In every coaching relationship both the coach and the client have some responsibility for the success of the coaching relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never take your client\u2019s responsibility and make it your responsibility.&nbsp; It\u2019s not your job to clean up your client\u2019s side of the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concentrate on improving YOUR side of the coaching equation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s always something you can improve\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, take any problems and failures in your coaching as an impetus to get better, rather than quit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quitting helps NOBODY.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you help someone 5%, that\u2019s 5% more than the client received before you showed up.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bottom line&#8230; That doesn\u2019t mean that you can\u2019t coach people if you\u2019re not great, just don\u2019t expect to get rich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coaches with mediocre standards and expectations don\u2019t get rich in the coaching business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coaching business doesn\u2019t work that way!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those who are ok with making a few bucks running a side business, there\u2019s no need to be anything more than average.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if you\u2019re asking this \u2018income\u2019 question beyond a 5 minute Google-search, then either&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;You really want to achieve greatness, but got scared or stopped at some point during that journey to greatness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026You\u2019re looking for guarantees and certainties of exactly how much money you\u2019re going to make as a coach (regardless of the amount &#8211; This might keep you stuck as well.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re only intending to hit the average income, then you&#8217;ll stay stuck in mediocrity (at least income-wise).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Either raise your standards, or resolve to be at peace with lower coaching income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bottom line?&nbsp; Be careful thinking that you\u2019re entitled to some grand income if you\u2019re only committed to mediocrity&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EARLY STAGE MISTAKE #2: If Your Client Fails, You\u2019re a Crappy Coach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=797s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">13:17<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; The coach doesn\u2019t get the trophy in the olympics, and they don\u2019t lose the big endorsement deal if the athlete loses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">13:50&nbsp; You can\u2019t do your clients pushups for them.&nbsp; Each client is responsible for their own results.&nbsp; You can\u2019t save people, they have to save themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You can\u2019t do your clients pushups for them.&nbsp; Each client is responsible for their own results.&nbsp; You can\u2019t save people, they have to save themselves.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>Kristoffer Thompson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll never help anyone succeed if you take on responsibilities that are not yours.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you carry the responsibilities of others on your shoulders, you\u2019ll burn out.&nbsp; Every Coach Has Clients That Fail<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can do a great job of coaching a client and they may still fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can do a poor job of coaching a client and they may still succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can coach 2 clients to accomplish the same goal in the same way that worked for millions of people, and 1 or both of them may still fail to accomplish the goal.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be careful of passing premature judgement in deciding if your client succeeded or failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t know your client failed until they\u2019ve stopped trying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You don\u2019t know your client failed until they\u2019ve stopped trying.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>Kristoffer Thompson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not over until it\u2019s over.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s always a next step in the coaching process no matter what kind of results your client is currently getting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your client quits, the coaching should help them recommit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your client fails, the coaching should help them improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, if your client fails\u2026 they just need your coaching that much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will never coach perfectly.&nbsp; You\u2019ll never do a perfect session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>15:13&nbsp; Fear of Harming Your Coaching Client<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some coaches will worry about \u2018hurting\u2019 a client.&nbsp; They\u2019ll say something to the tune of \u201cI need to learn more or I\u2019ll end up hurting my client, or maybe my client will get mad at me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I need to learn more or I\u2019ll end up hurting my client.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m going to tell you something important here\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s almost impossible to harm a client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You just can\u2019t screw up a coaching client that\u2019s already screwed up (Assuming your client is mentally sound).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even a client whose life is a mess?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the client is a mess, they may still be a mess after they work with you, but you\u2019re not the one that caused the mess.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll always be learning more.&nbsp; You\u2019ve probably been helping people your whole life.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are people you can help right now.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go help them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never let what you can\u2019t do stop you from doing what you can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Never let what you can\u2019t do stop you from doing what you can do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>Kristoffer Thompson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">15:30&nbsp; Let\u2019s talk about clients getting mad at you.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your client gets mad at you, it could be an indication that the coaching is getting to the real issue they have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might think that a client\u2019s upset is a sign that they don\u2019t want you to really coach them, but no client really wants a coach that holds back from sharing what they might see, especially because the coach is afraid of hurting the client\u2019s feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Coaching Clients Will Get Mad at You<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bottom line, clients WILL get mad at you at some point.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will be a result of something that they are triggered about. It won&#8217;t be because of something you did wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is possible that there are some clients that get mad because they\u2019re not a fit for your coaching, but that\u2019s not your issue.&nbsp; You can never say the right thing to the wrong person.&nbsp; Those clients are probably just not your niche.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, don\u2019t worry about being ignorant about something your clients ask you for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t have the expertise to give a client an answer on \u201chow to\u201d do something, just coach them towards discovering the answer they already know\u2026 or help them research an answer and take action on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll hurt clients more by holding back on your coaching because of fear of hurting their feelings than you ever will by sharing with them what you see, or asking them a good question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">16:05&nbsp; I remember when I was coaching the Dean of Master Coach University, Jeffrey Sooey.&nbsp; We would do practice coaching together so I could get stronger in my coaching skills through the practice and feedback from him.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the coaching session we were talking about why I was coaching in a specific way, and he said, \u201cKris, that was the best coaching you gave me throughout the entire coaching session.&nbsp; Why are you holding back?&nbsp; Why are you editing yourself?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/16-mistakes-project-subtitles-animated-5.jpg\" alt=\"Why hold back? feelings or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the coach really cares about your long term results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes, a friend will hold back from sharing something that might hurt your feelings because they don\u2019t want you to be mad at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why we hire coaches.&nbsp; We don\u2019t hire friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EARLY STAGE MISTAKE #3: Coaching Is Not a Legitimate Profession<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hv8FVon7JsA&amp;t=1060s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">17:40<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Treating coaching as if it\u2019s not a legitimate profession is a big mistake.&nbsp; Some people will talk about coaching as if it\u2019s not a real job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes I hear things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Is life coaching a con?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAre coaches or the coaching business in general just one big scam?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIs life coaching a viable business?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAm I going to get sued for coaching people wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Am I going to get sued for coaching people wrong?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Is life coaching a legitimate career?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">18:00 Underneath these surface questions and concerns is one big fear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI will be judged or look bad to others if I become a coach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If becoming a coach would make you look bad to other people, then they probably already look at you badly. &nbsp; There will always be people that will judge you positively or negatively.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real issue is this&#8230; How do you feel about yourself <em>in your own judgement<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">18:18&nbsp; You get paid money for coaching thus coaching is a real job.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can do it once you can do it 1,000 times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The truth about life coaching<\/strong> is that a coaching business will render consistent income if you treat it like you do your \u2018day job\u2019, showing up on time each day, and doing the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The very nature of the coaching business creates consistent income because clients pay monthly.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a monthly income strategy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the coach, you benefit from the stable income, while your client can still get tons of great coaching without going broke in the process from paying up front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try that in most other solo-preneurship opportunities or sales\/relationship jobs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Are coaches or the coaching business in general just one big scam?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In these other professions, you usually need to make sale after sale after sale in order to continue your ongoing income.&nbsp; In coaching you don\u2019t need to do that (unless you want to) because your new client pays you each and every month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>19:09&nbsp; Too Many Coaches Who Just Coach Other Coaches?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A commonly said <strong>life coaching criticism<\/strong> is that coaching is not a legitimate business because so many coaches happen to <em>do nothing other than coach other coaches<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can\u2019t speak for those coaches, but let me say&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My fellow team members and I didn\u2019t start out coaching coaches.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We still coach plenty of non-coaches.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then why do so many coaches coach other coaches?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s my take:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because, once a coach has successfully built their own coaching skills and coaching business, some of their successful clients decide they want to do the same thing for a living.&nbsp; These clients are ready to pay it forward, and their original coach ends up helping them in their new coaching goals as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a sign of the power and value of coaching itself, rather than a sign that coaching is somehow a pyramid scheme or confidence scam.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">19:45&nbsp; Bottom line?&nbsp; Coaches aren\u2019t roaming the earth trying to convince people to become a coach.&nbsp; That\u2019s just not the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a little contrast to shine a different light on the issue\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you know why there time.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe coaching business sounds like hard work.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI have no clue where to start or how this works, therefore I\u2019ll table it for now.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI don\u2019t want to have to struggle to make much money.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cIt\u2019s going to cost an arm and a leg to become a life coach.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cIt\u2019ll take years to become a life coach.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These kinds of mindsets drive people to spend all their time and money to get certified, and then nothing happens after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All these supposed problems and complaints are just a function of an entitlement mindset.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So how do you handle this?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simple, get to the truth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>20:46&nbsp; Takes too much time?<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The time will pass anyway.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you delay because of this, then it will cost you the time it will already take PLUS the time you delay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Too lazy to get your business started?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are lazy, but you\u2019re really passionate about coaching, then your current laziness probably won\u2019t hold you back (even if it has held you back in other areas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ever hear the old saying \u201cThose that don\u2019t do, teach\u201d?&nbsp; Now some people say \u201cThose that don\u2019t do, COACH\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps this is true!&nbsp; And, if it is, you might be a perfect fit for the coaching business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think about it\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe you don\u2019t care to help yourself and take action on your own interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather, you like helping others accomplish things for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">21:17&nbsp; In that case, you might not be lazy at all\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;maybe you&#8217;re just a nice person!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>you might not be lazy at all\u2026&nbsp; Maybe you&#8217;re just a nice person!<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<cite>Kristoffer Thompson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe you\u2019ve always done things for yourself and that is why you\u2019ve been apathetic about it.&nbsp; If, instead, you did things for others (like coach them) it would inspire you and you\u2019d find it easy to get to work (as such a nice and helpful person).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, laziness can definitely kill a business, and the coaching business is no different.&nbsp; If you\u2019re going to be lazy in your coaching business, don\u2019t waste your time starting it, because it\u2019ll fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But remember, lazy is as lazy does.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you simply take enough action, you cease to be lazy.&nbsp; That means you can change your lazy ways any time you want.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>21:47&nbsp; The coaching business sounds like hard work?<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a coach, you\u2019re doing something important, and the really important things are rarely easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no \u2018hard\u2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is only what is required to get a result.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And how hard is it really?&nbsp; Hard compared to what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I bet you\u2019ve done all sorts of \u2018hard things\u2019 in your life that make starting a coaching business look easy.&nbsp; Don\u2019t sell yourself short!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Think the coaching business should feel good all the time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you always feel good, you\u2019re not growing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>22:02&nbsp; The coaching business will cost too much?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re overly focused on the cost to start a life coaching business\u2026 you\u2019re missing out on the value class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s never about the cost.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whatever you decide you\u2019re gonna pay either way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll either pay the cost of having a coaching business, or you\u2019ll pay the cost of not having a coaching business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>22:25&nbsp; Costs of Starting a Coaching Business<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are actually a few aspects to the cost of a coaching business that are quite helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coaching business has a high acquisition cost, true.&nbsp; The cost of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Getting certified and trained<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building your business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building your website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentoring for you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that\u2019s the worst of it.&nbsp; The coaching business ultimately has a low maintenance cost.&nbsp; Once you\u2019re established, it takes much less investment to keep the business running.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a
