It\u2019s a subset of executive coaching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An executive coach is going to likely provide leadership coaching for the executive that they coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That executive needs to lead people in their organization\u2026&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>to higher levels of performance.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>to follow through on what they need to follow through on.&nbsp;<\/li><li>to produce results that wouldn\u2019t get produced if that leader hadn\u2019t shown up.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The function of leadership is novelty.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">01:48 The function of leadership is novelty.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The function of leadership is for the leader to produce a new result for an individual or a team that they\u2019re leading.&nbsp; The leader needs to produce a result that their team wouldn\u2019t have produced had that leader not shown up and actually led.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So\u2026 a great executive coach is a great leadership coach, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is The Best Executive Coaching Certification?&nbsp; Do I Need It?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CokUBsg-oN8&amp;t=141s\">2:21<\/a><\/strong> There is a certification that\u2019s needed in order to even be eligible to coach most executives working for Fortune 500 companies.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ICF credentials (the International Coach Federation credentials) are the worldwide recognized standard in the world of coaching.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most governments and larger organizations recognize the ICF credential as the credential they require to hire a coach to work with their executives.&nbsp; We hold them accountable for taking action on the learnings\u2026 for following through.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Step Two: Discussion, Strategy, And Utilization<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also facilitate conversations around what they learned. That way they can drive the memorization, or the ability to understand and appreciate what they learned in training\u2026 even more deeply.&nbsp; Sometimes just talking about something helps you to understand it and appreciate it even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our coaches help to facilitate that process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">05:55 We\u2019ll also strategize with executives on successfully utilizing what they\u2019ve learned.&nbsp; More utilization leads to higher skill sets.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without our coaching, these executives may not gain any new skills from their training.&nbsp; Just because they have the knowledge of something doesn\u2019t mean that they\u2019ve gained any skills or a level of mastery yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">06:11 For instance, if a client has learned some aspects of management and communication, maybe they understand it theoretically, which is great\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re going to hold them accountable for practicing what they learned\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Step Three: Adjustment &amp; Improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026 and as they practice it, they\u2019ll have challenges\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;Sometimes the approaches won\u2019t work.&nbsp; They\u2019ll use the learnings, but they\u2019ll \u2018fumble the ball\u2019 a little bit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our coaches can work through the answer to the big question: \u201cWhere did things get stuck?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Was it your mindset?<\/li><li>Was it your delivery?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Was it something that went on with other individuals you worked with?&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then, the coaches likely follow up with \u2018next action\u2019 questions, like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What do you need to learn from this experience?<\/li><li>How are you going to change it next time?<ul><li>so you\u2019ll do things better?<\/li><li>so you\u2019re at another level of performance?<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then, of course, these adjustments and improvements become new actionable items those executives are accountable for following through on, and the whole cycle repeats itself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using Executive Coaching Within Corporate &#8220;Leadership Development&#8221; Projects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CokUBsg-oN8&amp;t=411s\">6:51<\/a><\/strong> There are also higher level development projects that our team is hired to work with large corporations to facilitate.\u00a0 These projects could last over a year or more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In these \u2018leadership development\u2019 projects, each executive, individually, can work on&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>their skills<\/li><li>their development&nbsp;<\/li><li>their mindset&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Usually, we go pretty deep in these larger time-frame development projects, to the point of grooming an executive for the next promotion, or to support a potential succession plan.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe a few of these clients are C-Suite material!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Executive Coaching Has Blurred The Lines Between Coaching and Consulting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CokUBsg-oN8&amp;t=437s\">7:17<\/a><\/strong> Coaching is an inquiry process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coach is not there just to provide knowledge and expertise.&nbsp; They\u2019re there to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/powerful-questioning-in-coaching\/\">ask powerful questions<\/a><\/strong> and facilitate a discussion that supports that executive in their performance, achievement, and results.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The corporation that hires you doesn&#8217;t care about your definition of coaching or consulting\u2026&nbsp;&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">07:37 However, a lot of times, executive coaches will provide consulting within the coaching process that they facilitate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/coachestrainingblog.com\/becomeacoach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/consulting-inside-coaching.gif\" alt=\"Executive Coaching vs. Consulting\" class=\"wp-image-24612\" width=\"733\" height=\"632\"\/><figcaption><em>The realm of <strong>executive coaching<\/strong> can contain consulting.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strictly speaking, providing \u201cconsulting\u201d is not exactly coaching\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;but there\u2019s nothing wrong with providing knowledge (or teaching a little bit) inside of the executive coaching process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This extra \u2018consulting can make an executive coach even more valuable to the organization (or executive) that hired them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">08:04&nbsp; More large executive coaching firms are looking more like consulting firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Is this blurring the line a little bit between true coaching and what consulting is?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is this blurring the line a little bit between true coaching and what consulting is?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Probably\u2026 it is, to some extent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless, I think adding some education and consulting to your coaching is a great help to the corporate and executive realm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consulting organizations are highly respected, and needed, and are paid a pretty penny by large corporations.&nbsp; If executive coaches could bring in those kinds of dollars, then it\u2019s well worth it to navigate the waters between coaching and consulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">08:51 The corporation that hires you doesn&#8217;t care about your definition of coaching or consulting\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That corporation cares about getting the business results they want.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why they\u2019re hiring you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you bring a little consulting to the table, that\u2019s going to raise that company\u2019s esteem for you, not lower it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I hope you got some value out of this discussion today about executive coaching.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also have a question for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you think it makes a difference to pair an executive with a coach to support them?&nbsp;
