Coaches are constantly asking me… “How do I get more coaching clients<\/a><\/strong>?” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s deconstruct the answer… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why would someone hire a life coach<\/a><\/strong> in the first place?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most coaching client relationships are motivated by a painful situation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Most think it\u2019s because the coach has a great, proven strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FALSE!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why not?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because most people don\u2019t care HOW you get them closer to their dreams. They don\u2019t care about your STRATEGY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like when someone is about to have open heart surgery, they won\u2019t be interested in how the surgeon cracks their rib cage and what tools he\u2019ll be using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Hire a Life Coach?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

So, there are ONLY TWO REASONS an individual would hire a life coach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. to get out of a painful situation<\/li>
  2. to achieve a new, exciting goal<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    In my experience, when someone is excited about accomplishing something specific, such as starting a business or getting fit, they\u2019ll likely be easier to talk with during the 1st introductory call. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Goal setting coaching<\/a><\/strong> is quite a bit more comfortable for this type of client than finding blind spots or deep issues that might be holding them back. I talk about the challenges of coaching in depth HERE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Getting More Coaching Clients… It’s All About The Pain…<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Option #1, however, is the much more prevalent of the two. Those looking to get out of a deep pain, will likely be much more complex during conversation. It is a bit rare to find people looking to sign up for coaching who are completely OPEN about their big PROBLEM and totally trusting the coach on the call to deliver a solution and end up signing up the same day (without great skill on the coach\u2019s part).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More commonly, clients will even dance around the SEVERITY of their problem (sometimes subconsciously) in order to avoid feeling the PAIN of it, which hurts even more when it\u2019s spoken out loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It\u2019s like, if you\u2019ve ever admitted to your spouse about lying or CHEATING on them, you\u2019d know exactly how painful it is for the client to admit THEIR problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    One reason for this may be that when people make mistakes, they often think there\u2019s something wrong with them. They may feel they\u2019re flawed or need to be \u201cfixed\u201d in some way and don\u2019t realize that \u201cmis-takes\u201d are just a part of the human condition. And admitting this \u201cflaw\u201d is very painful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So why would someone REALLY hire a life coach?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Because they believe the coach will help them get the OUTCOME they desire. It doesn\u2019t matter WHY or HOW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
