However, over the years, we have seen more coaches gravitating more towards becoming ICF credentialed. Also, they were established to help distinguish their coaches from coaches certified through other organizations.<\/p>\n<h3>The ICF Core Competencies And IAC Masteries: What They Have in Common<\/h3>\n<p>Interestingly enough, both the International Coach Federation (ICF) and the International Association of Coaching (IAC) were founded by the same individual, Thomas J. Leonard. He was known as the father of professional coaching. He established the ICF in 1995 followed by the IAC in 1993. The IAC Coaching Masteries were developed to produce clear standards and measures for what constitutes the highest level of coaching. Both the ICF and IAC are the two most globally recognized and respected coach certification and credentialing organizations today.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ICF credentialing places emphasis on coach training, mentoring and experience, as well as an online test and demonstration of coaching skill.<\/li>\n<li>IAC certification emphasizes the results of coach training, mentoring and experience, rather than the documentation of it.<\/li>\n<li>The ICF has eleven core competencies while the IAC has nine coaching masteries which appears to have a few similarities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now the <strong>ICF competencies<\/strong> are divided into four groups according to how they logically fit together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A. Setting the foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">1. Meeting ethical guidelines and professional standards<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">2. Establishing the coaching agreement<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>B. Co-creating the relationship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">3. Establishing trust and intimacy with the client<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">4. Coaching presence<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>C. Communicating effectively<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">5. Active listening<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">6. Powerful questioning<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">7. Direct communication<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>D. Facilitating learning and results.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">8. Creating awareness<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">9. Designing actions<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">10. Planning and goal setting<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">11. Managing progress and accountability<\/p>\n<p>For the IAC Coaching Masteries, there are nine masteries:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">1. Establishing and maintaining a relationship of trust<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">2. Perceiving affirming and expanding the client\u2019s potential<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">3. Engaged listening<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">4. Processing in the present<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">5. Expressing<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">6. Clarifying<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">7. Helping the client set and keep clear intentions<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">8. Inviting possibility<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">9.
