How will you be able to see how much progress your clients have made, if you don’t use assessments in your coaching practice?

You probably use many types of assessments without even knowing it. Judgement and observation are subtle forms of assessment and are used all the time in coaching sessions. But, there is more to measuring and assessing than just judgement and observation.

Using Coaching Forms to Make Assessments

The use of forms in your coaching practice is one of the best ways to measure progress. Assessment coaching includes forms for self-analysis, progress assessment, goal achievement, and more. You can use general assessment forms or ones that are tailored to a specific issue. By having your clients complete these measurement and assessment forms, you and your client are able to track progress and measure success.

Assessment Coaching as Motivation

One of the most important benefits of using assessment forms and other tools that measure and assess is that they can offer motivation, inspiration, and a major kick in the butt! Self-assessment show your clients have far they have come and how far they need to go. Assessments can show them how they have overcome obstacles, and provide them with the motivation needed to overcome additional obstacles.

When your client understands where they are on their path to success, and how far they have left to travel, they become a more involved and inspired partner in their own journey to success.

Use all The Coaching Tools You Can

Coaching tools are just like any set of tools – you won’t need them all on every job (client), but you need a wide range of tools for all your jobs (clients). Client A may require one type of tool while Client B may require a completely different type.

Assessment coaching is one subset of tools within your toolbox. It should contain a variety of tools that fit within the assessment category. Forms, games, interview questions, and more all constitute a comprehensive coaching toolbox.

As a coach, your ultimate aim is to help your client achieve the outcomes they desire. You seek to help them overcome, develop, strive, and succeed. You want them to reach their optimum potential, achieve their goals, and find happiness and contentment.

Assessment coaching is critical in helping your clients get the most out of your coaching, and also essential in you being the best coach you can be.

Give this strategy a try and see for yourself that it works.
