Executives, managers, and business owners need to understand how to create a strategic plan, and how to use that plan within an organization to improve communication, create confidence, and achieve goals.

However, there are a few items that are often taught when working on a strategic plan – this is where you can separate yourself from the masses!

The Same Old Business Techniques

Most business coaching is the same – coaches are trained to help clients identify and set goals, actively listen, empathize, and question. They also help clients learn how to become leaders, deal with employees, balance work and life, learn stress reduction techniques, and create business and strategic plans. These are common business coaching techniques because they are important and because they work.

Two More Business Coaching Techniques That Work

When working on helping clients develop a strategic plan, most coaches focus on capturing data, prioritizing that data, and then organizing everything into a plan. That’s great, but if you want to give your clients something more, something different, you can dig a little deeper into developing goals for a strategic plan.

Setting goals is a crucial component of a strategic plan – goals such as amount of sales, amount of new products, amount of income, etc. are all great goals. But, there are two types of goals that are just a bit different and not part of the business coaching techniques used by most coaches.

Stop Doing Goals

While most goals are things organizations want to achieve, goals can also be things an organization wants to stop doing. Using Apple as an example, one of the most profitable and iconic companies has had to make many decisions to stop making certain products, even though they were marginally profitable. By ceasing the production of some products, they were able to free up human and capital resources to make better products – iconic products such as the iPhone and the iPod. If they hadn’t ceased production of other products, they might not have had the money or human resources to build their most profitable products.

Stop doing goals are the most ignored goals in an organization, but they can often be the most important – a good business coaching technique is to get your clients to focus on these goals.

Goals – Doing More With Something that Works

Some companies may ignore products or segments of their business that are already working. They may think they’ve already hit a home run in one area and set their sights on something different. But, one type of goal is to take a successful product and create more successful products around it – doing more with what works. Companies like Honda leveraged their ability to make a core asset – they started out making inexpensive and reliable engines. They then branched out into making more products using their core asset.

Boost Your Business Coaching By Doing Something Different Than the Others

If others are talking about stop-doing goals and doing-something-with-more goals than you should be. Put those business coaching techniques into your coaching toolbox and you’ll be helping your clients more than the others!

Special Bonus – Learn 32 ‘Guru’ Transformation Techniques when you fill in the form at the top right and click the “Watch The Videos Now” button.
