DISC or Values Assessments<\/span>.<\/p>\nMy husband and I recently went through a relationship assessment debrief.\u00a0\u00a0What was most amazing was that he actually felt that the information was amazingly insightful.\u00a0\u00a0Why was I so surprised?\u00a0<\/p>\n
Well, it\u2019s because we actually don\u2019t always see eye to eye.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not just because he\u2019s over half a foot taller than I am.\u00a0\u00a0And the assessments told us just why.\u00a0\u00a0You see, he is a very high \u201cS\u201d and very high \u201cC\u201d. \u00a0In case you aren\u2019t familiar with the DISC, it means that he is very steady.\u00a0\u00a0He takes awhile to change course and only then if all the data supports that decision.\u00a0\u00a0He is also a little pessimistic.\u00a0\u00a0He didn\u2019t really buy into that part, until he asked an expert.\u00a0\u00a0Our six year old daughter.\u00a0\u00a0She not only told him he was, but was able to give him a very good example.<\/p>\n
Ok, before you think that I think I\u2019m perfect\u2026I\u2019ll tell you about myself.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m a fairly high \u201cD\u201d and \u201cI\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0I like to get things done (my way),\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m very social (it takes at least 20 minutes to say goodbye at a party),\u00a0\u00a0and according to the view of a high \u201cS\u201d and \u201cC\u201d…I can be a little Pollyanna.\u00a0\u00a0Too optimistic?\u00a0\u00a0Bah humbug!<\/p>\n
No one ever told me how to become a relationship coach<\/span><\/span>, but without those assessments it would have taken an expert at least a month\u2019s worth of sessions to get that much insight.\u00a0\u00a0And the beauty of these tools is that it is objective, clear, and insightful\u2026and you can get the results after a 20 minute quiz.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s modern technology!\u00a0<\/p>\nBut what we really gained out of the assessments and debrief was confirmation of what we already knew.\u00a0\u00a0We may deal with the world in very different ways, but that also can provide quite a bit of balance.\u00a0\u00a0And amazingly we have almost identical values.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The whole process was really valuable, and probably would have been really helpful if we had received it as a wedding gift instead of those champagne glasses we hardly ever use.<\/p>\n
