Coaching psychology is a skill and a practice that uncovers various hidden psychological processes. It helps to uncover the hidden obstacles and mechanisms that prevent individuals from achieving their goals and dreams.<\/p>\n<h3>The History of The International Society for Coaching Psychology<\/h3>\n<p>The International Forum for Coaching Psychology was created in 2006 in London, England. Its purpose was to create a network of coaching psychologists, provide accreditation for coaching psychologists, collaborate between different countries, promote research, and identify what works.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, the <strong><u>Society for Coaching Psychology<\/u><\/strong> was created out of the forum. Its purpose was to further the mission of the forum, and to develop theory and practice in the field of coaching psychology. In 2011, the name was changed to The International <strong><u>Society for Coaching Psychology<\/u><\/strong> to reflect its global emphasis.<\/p>\n<h3>The Coaching Code of Ethics<\/h3>\n<p>As a professional society it was important to develop a code of ethics for its members. This code of ethics includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rights \u2013 the right of individuals to privacy, confidentiality, and self-determination should be respected and valued at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Recognition \u2013 members should recognize the limits of their competence and the standards by which they should practice.<\/li>\n<li>Relationships \u2013 coaching psychologists should establish good and trusting relationships with their clients while recognizing boundaries and limits.<\/li>\n<li>Representation \u2013 coaches should represent themselves with professionalism, accuracy, and honesty.<\/li>\n<li>Responsibility \u2013 coaches should recognize their responsibility to uphold standards of conduct, a code of ethics, and their professional obligations to their clients. They should maintain professional integrity at all times, and pursue continuous professional development.<\/li>\n<li>Respect \u2013 have respect for each and every client, comply with all reasonable requests from clients, and respect their aspirations and goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The International <strong><u>Society for Coaching Psychology<\/u><\/strong> has also created a Guide to Coaching Psychology Practice which can be used by members to help them create, develop, and maintain their practices. It helps to ensure that they incorporate all aspects of the code of ethics into their practice model, and gives them a guide to becoming the best coaching psychologists they can be. <\/p>\n<h3>The Future of Coaching Psychology<\/h3>\n<p>The fields of coaching and psychology, though different, also have many things in common. The juxtaposition of psychology with coaching works to create a client\/coach relationship that delves deeper and aims higher. <\/p>\n<p>The future looks bright for both these fields as individuals try to find ways to reach the goals and improve their lives.
