Can men have success coaching women? It seems like such a ridiculous question at first, but in a society that often specializes, and frequently focuses on issues for a specific group, it may not be quite as ridiculous as first assumed.

Coaches Must Be Able to Find Outcomes for Their Clients
The guiding principle of coaching is – if you can offer outcomes that your clients are seeking, then you can be an effective and successful coach. If you can offer outcomes that women are seeking, then you can have success coaching women, whether you are a woman or a man! Outcomes matter more than gender!
Women May Prefer Women Coaches…But…
Some women may feel more comfortable revealing their inner secrets to another woman. However, for most women, it is the quality of the coaching that counts. If a coach can help them achieve success, then it probably doesn’t matter if it is a man or a woman. Men can have success coaching a woman if they know what they’re doing.
Men Can Have Success Coaching Women and Women Can Have Success Coaching Men.
There may be a few specific niches in the coaching industry where it is better to have a coach of the same sex, but for most types of coaching, the gender really doesn’t matter. Men can have success coaching women and women can have success coaching men.
Selecting the Right Life Coach
When looking for a life coach, here are the most important things to consider:
* Certification. Though certification isn’t a necessity to be a coach, and doesn’t mean that someone is a great coach, coaching is a profession that requires a specific set of skills and a solid base of knowledge. It also requires coaches to maintain specific standards that are taught in accredited schools.
* References and Testimonials. A coach who helps clients find desired outcomes will have satisfied customers. Obtaining references and seeking out testimonials before you hire a coach is one of the best ways to ensure you will be receiving quality coaching.
* Comfort. You must feel comfortable with a coach before you can get results. Many coaches offer free initial sessions where you can get a feel for the coaching style. If you don’t feel comfortable, you should look for a different coach. Even if you pay for the initial session, it’s not worth staying with a coach if you feel uncomfortable. This doesn’t mean that a coach is bad’ it just might not be the right one for you.
These are the three most important considerations when seeking out a coach. However, if gender
is something you will think about, then you might consider finding a coach of the same gender. After
all, this falls under the comfort category. If you are a woman, and you really think you will feel more
comfortable with a woman, then by all means, hire a woman coach! But, keep in mind, men can have
success coaching women if they are a quality and knowledgeable coach!

Gender does not matter, it’s the quality of the coaching that does! However, if one is not comfortable then by all means get a coach of the same gender. Nevertheless, success can be achieved by a male coach for a female client and vice-versa.
When considering a coach the more important criteria are the certification, references and testimonials, and comfort. Gender will be one of the aspects in the area of comfort.
I think it doesn’t really matter whether your coach is a man or a woman, what matters most is the results of the coaching that your coach has done. When their client is satisfied and has a good outcome, that is what’s important.
