Define “Ontology”

Before we define what, ontological coaching is, let us first understand the term “ontology”. It is not a term you hear every day. The term ontology has to do with the branch of philosophy that deals with being in general and its properties; the study of the nature of BEING. Ontology is basically the study of how we observe and interact with whatever’s around us.

What is ontological coaching?

According to the Newfield Network, the world’s leading ontological training organization since 1991, ontological coaching is an extraordinarily powerful methodology for effecting real change at the individual, team and organizational levels. It is highly effective because it is based on a new practical understanding of the power of language, moods, and conversations for behavioral and cultural change. Newfield Institute, a separate organization from the Newfield Network is an international educational, coaching and consulting company founded in 1996 by Alan Sieler. The organization specializes in the application of ontology for the holistic development of coaches, leaders, and managers. They do this by partnering with individuals and organizations in deep learning, coaching, and leadership. The Newfield Institute is headquartered in Melbourne Australia and also operates in South Africa, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Certified Ontological Coach- Coach Training Program at Newfield Institute

The Certified Ontological Coaching and Leadership Program (COCLP) is the most in-depth and comprehensive coach training program available in the Asia Pacific region and is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF). The COCLP is designed for existing and aspiring coaches, consultants, leaders, and managers. Professionals who worked in highly people-focused environments will also benefit from the program.

The Certified Ontological Coaching and Leadership Program is an 18-month program conducted over three progressive levels:

Level 1: The Linguistic Basis of Ontological Coaching (starting with the Ontological Coaching and Leadership in Action)

Level 2: Emotional Learning and Ontological Coaching

Level 3: The Professional Practice of Ontological Coaching

Participant learning and engagement in the 18-month program consists of the following:

• A total of 29 intensive and experiential workshop days with program leaders
• Study group participation
• Individual assignment work
• Participation in at least 55 supervised coaching conversations throughout the program

Each participant will be assigned a Mentor Coach to provide ongoing support, which includes coaching.

An average of 6-8 hours per week is required to engage comprehensively in the course to maximize learning.
