You’ll Never Cut It in Business Coaching

That’s right. If you’re not schizophrenic, you’ll never cut it in business coaching. That’s because you need to be a coach AND a business person, to be a business coach. In fact, to be a successful business coach, your brain must first be in the same business as your client – and then you get to be a coach.

Business Coaching Is All about the Bottom Line – Sort of

So when your client comes to you with a problem, it looks a lot like a business problem – probably something about the bottom line. That means that a good part of the help you give will be based upon your understanding of your client’s business, and probably not a superficial understanding. You have to speak that language fluently – and what is more, you need to have something to say. Otherwise you have not earned the right to be taken seriously as a business coach.

Getting beyond the Business Problem and into Your Client’s Head

Once you have proven yourself credible as a business person, then you get the chance to prove that you are a coach. Then you get to address the underlying challenges that face your client – the challenges that are in their head. What are the blockages? How can you connect? How can you look into their subconscious mind? And how can you cause permanent transformation? That’s right. Just the basic questions of coaching. But in business coaching, there is clearly an added level of complexity.

The Joy of Impacting a Person of Impact

Business coaching gives you a chance to impact your client and their entire organization. So when you make your client happy, you can make the entire organization happy. So because of the complexity of the issues and the leverage you can achieve, being a business coach is some of the most rewarding fun you can have, even if you have to be a little crazy to pull it off.
