Pride: The First Deadly Sin In Life Coaching

The First Deadly Sin In Life Coaching is Pride

In your life coaching business, as in your life, the seven deadly sins can show up to suck the joy and the success out of you and out of your career as a coach. I bet you know what they look like when they show up in your personal life. Have you thought about how they might look in your business? This is the first in a series of articles on the seven deadly sins in life coaching and your life coaching business.

Does Pride Diminish Your Life Coaching Business Success?

.

Pride can be a real double-edged sword for your business. If taking pride in your business and the service you provide makes you want to do the best job possible and give the best service, then you are getting the positive edge. If, on the other hand, your pride makes you believe that everything in your life coaching business is perfect and there is no room for improvement, you are in big trouble. That edge is likely to wound you in a major way and leave your business dead or dying. There is always room for improvement! As a successful business owner you need to know that even when something is working well, you must keep your eyes open for tweaks and changes that will make it even better. And when you’ve spotted those areas, don’t let pride get in the way of actually making the changes.

Pride Can Negatively Affect Your Coaching

.

Your life coaching skills and results are also subject to the sin of pride. How, you ask? Pride can stop you from asking for help when you need it. You might ignore useful coaching tips when they are offered. Pride can make you think you don’t need a coach, thus detracting from your credibility. If you don’t value having a coach why should potential clients believe you when you suggest that life coaching might be of value to them? And perhaps most important to your life coaching ability and success, feeling too proud of yourself can put the focus in your sessions on you instead of on your client. Clients and potential clients will feel right away that their session is more about you than about them, and that will be the end of whatever coaching relationship you might have had.

Pride can be a sin or a blessing in your life coaching business. Without it, you might not have the confidence to succeed. But be careful you don’t get cut on that double-edged sword!
