Poverty Is Victory For Your Life Coaching Business–Or Is It?

life coaching business - The Danger Of Using Poverty As A ResourceIn a recent blog my colleague wrote about the benefits of your personal experience of poverty to your life coaching business. While I mostly agree with what she said, I think there is another side of this poverty experience that merits our attention. That is the issue of coming into your life coaching business from a position of scarcity rather than a position of abundance.

The Danger Of Using Poverty As A Resource

.

When you overcome the pain of your own personal state of poverty and scarcity, you obviously have credibility as a coach in that particular area. And credibility is imperative to build your client roster and your life coaching business. But what happens if you identify too much with your clients who experience poverty in the same area as you did? Have you ever had clients whose problems were so similar to your own that you found yourself buying into their pain and blind spots instead of creating pathways out of them? I have. So here’s my two part solution if you find this happening. First, imagine yourself and your client in separate energy bubbles tied with a golden cord. It’s important to keep the bubbles tied to maintain rapport and connection, but the separation allows a different viewpoint to see the blind spots more clearly. Then second, think back to the questions you asked yourself, or your coach asked you when you were at rock bottom and ask your client those same questions.

The Negative Effect Of Scarcity On Your Life Coaching Business

.

Overcoming poverty in any area of life can leave you with a residual fear that comfort, joy and success are always scarce commodities and a struggle to hold on to. Think about it. Do you have a scarcity mindset? Are you worried that there just isn’t enough to go around and it will always be hard to keep what you have? Whether you experienced poverty in money, in health, in relationships, or in anything else, if you have a scarcity mindset and you coach from a place of fear and struggle, then building your life coaching business is going to be a challenge. A scarcity mindset leads to fear and fear can stop you in your tracks. Do you make your best decisions from a place of fear or from a place of power? What do you coach your clients to do?

Your life coaching business success needs you to come from a place of power and abundance. While poverty in whatever form may have been the impetus to get moving in your life and your life coaching business, put it in the past. Don’t let it interfere with the future.
