It isn’t immediately obvious what life success coaching and exotic travel have in common. But really, take my word for it, they do have some commonalities. I’ve done quite a lot of both, so here is my take on 3 approaches to increase the success and pleasure of these 2 very different life activities.
.
Life Success Coaching Works Best With Full Immersion
When I traveled to Bali years ago, I stayed in a type of hotel called a homestay. It was a modest hotel with an entirely Indonesian clientele, except for me and my friend. We had virtually none of the modern Western amenities and it was a wonderful and unique immersion into an exotic culture. So how does this relate to life success coaching? The best way, and really the only way, to serve your clients successfully and with integrity, is to immerse yourself fully in your coaching. If you are thinking about your child’s recital or your Christmas shopping or how nervous you are, neither you nor your client is getting the best possible experience.
Don’t Be Afraid To Try New Things
One of the great pleasures of traveling is the endless stream of opportunities to try new things. New foods, new language, new kinds of entertainment are all available to try. Everywhere you turn there is something that is exciting and unfamiliar. The coaching parallel? Don’t get stuck in a rut. Be willing to try new techniques, new language patterns and new stories. Unfamiliar may not always work out, but when it does, it can be amazing and life changing.
Be Flexible In Your Approach
When you travel, you have to be flexible. Flights get canceled. Luggage gets lost. Communications can go awry. Likewise in coaching. You may think you have the perfect technique or modality for dealing with some client issue, and find that it is totally ineffective. Then what? Be flexible. Try something else! And if that something else doesn’t work, keep looking and learning and trying things until you find what does work. Willingness to explore possibilities can lead to marvelous outcomes.
So, I can see the parallels between life success coaching and exotic travel. Can you?
